Chanel Wallet on Chain ‘WOC’ Bag in Black With Silver Hardware
This bag isn’t one that needs many words if I’m honest. Those of you who know Chanel or designer bags in general will already know about the famous Chanel Wallet on Chain or WOC for short, and its dominance in the designer bag world, but for those of you who don’t, let me get straight to it in just a second. I did share with you this photo on Instagram asking you what I got, before I revealed it here, and I know some of you have seen it briefly, so lets go.
When I was in London back in the very beginning of September, when I purchased my Celine Nano Luggage in Dune, I may have been keeping a big secret from you, and that’s this little something extra. I never had any intentions of buying two designer bags when I was there and had a strict rule that I was coming home with one, which was the Celine, but it didn’t quite go to plan. If you follow me on social media you may remember me wondering which new designer bag to get and the end two choices were the Celine Nano Luggage and the Chanel Wallet on Chain, so these two bags were both high on my list, but I only had enough money saved up for just one.
As you know I bought my Celine on the first day I was there in London, but I had done a lot of other browsing around in other shops and went into Selfridges as well, to check out their Chanel department. I’d of course been in all the boutiques like Burberry, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior… etc, but in Selfridges I spotted this bag and had asked if it comes in the silver hardware as I’ve often only ever seen the gold. The sales assistant said it did and went to get it for me, which I tried on, but felt it was too long, covered in scratches, and a bit small, plus as I had gotten the other bag, so I handed it back to her and said I’d think about it… and boy I was not kidding.
Choosing The Chanel Bag
I ended up thinking about this Chanel WOC all night, contemplating if it really was too long, too small, justifiable etc., and by the morning I was adamant I was going home with just my one bag. Adam and I checked out of the hotel that morning and because our train wasn’t until later that day, we decided to do some window shopping again and wander around the nice parts of London. Of course this path just so happened to lead us onto New Bond Street (accidental of course!) and we ventured inside Chanel again. I must have circled the shop quite a few times, looking around, and as it was really busy I wasn’t approached by anyone thankfully, but then I saw a customer looking at the WOC in the Camellia print and I just adored the shape of it.
A sales assistant looked at me and said ‘can I help you?’ as they’re always looking for people who look like they want to buy something, and I wasn’t going to say anything, but before I could say no thank you, the words were coming out of my mouth again, asking for the Wallet on Chain in Black Leather with Silver Hardware. We went over to the counter and she found this one out and handed it to me, letting me try it on for ages, see what fits inside, inspect it, put my phone in it, talk about it with Adam and with persuasion from him, I decided ok, I can’t pass this up again. I had a different outfit on and it didn’t look too long this time, so I was putting that down to my dress being misleading the day before. I said I’d take it and I’d put it on my credit card and deal with that at another date. She went off to look for a stock one and said they didn’t have one, so again, this was the last bag I loved in the store and I knew I had to take it. I inspected it a lot and it seemed near perfect, other than a couple of little minor nicks which happen on the soft leather, so I went for it.
Buying The Bag
I was kind of in shock the entire time after at what I had just done and felt so bad. I was stuck with two sides to this in my head, the bad things being: how are you going to pay this off? You only needed one bag! This one isn’t too practical and you didn’t love it as much as the Celine, what were you thinking? But then the good things were saying: this is a classic, you need classics! It was the last one, you got lucky! This bag will go with everything and it’s light so it wont hurt you… and it went on like this for weeks. In the end, I decided that I wasn’t going to have the Chanel until November because I’d just got the other bag and wanted to get use out of it, so this Wallet on Chain was embargoed until November, so I’d have time between the two. It may sound odd to those of you who don’t love bags so much, but if I had both together, the Celine would have always been the leader of them and I’d have felt bad, whereas putting this one away made it more like a new bag purchase a few months down the line after I’d worn the other a lot. Yes, I’m crazy, but it worked.
The WOC Details
So here it is! Isn’t it beautiful? It doubles as a wallet without a chain, but it also can be worn cross-body as well, like I’m showing in the photos. It’s got so many compartments to it, including a zip pocket on the actual inside flap, sections inside with burgundy lining, credit card holders, and even a pocket on the back, and a zip pocket on the inside, so it’s extremely usable. I didn’t want to choose the popular caviar leather version as I’m not a huge fan of the grainy look, so that’s why I went with the smooth, and the reason I didn’t pick gold hardware is because gold and black is quite contrasting (I know from experience on my Balenciaga) and a lot of the stuff I need to wear as classics is silver or cool toned, so the silver hardware was the best option. I think it looks more classic like this anyway as nothing stands out too bold. The sales assistant wrapped it up beautifully too, so I’m in love with it.
Why I Love It
After my initial regret and panic about what I’d done, I realised it was a good thing and that this bag will be with me forever as most Chanel bags are to people. I already have a seasonal one which is my Chanel Small Boy Bag in Bordeaux Velvet, so it was about time I had the ultimate classic from the brand. I am a little scared to wear it because the leather is so delicate and soft – I don’t want to scratch it, but you will definitely be seeing this beautiful thing very soon! You saw it briefly in this outfit, but I will be wearing it cross-body for some outfits to come. Sorry I don’t have a video review, but I haven’t been well enough to do one and as this bag has been around for years, there’s loads all over YouTube anyway. What do you think of my new Chanel Wallet on Chain ‘WOC’ Bag? Do you like it?
