Allsaints Elva Leather Jacket Review

Allsaints Elva Leather Jacket Review

I thought I would turn this blog post into a review actually because I got this brand new Allsaints Elva Leather Jacket and am totally obsessed with it. This is the first time I wore it in these photos and I paired it with a Topshop Knit, my L’AGENCE Margot Jeans in Slate, and my Golden Goose Sneakers. It’s a very casual outfit and I love how easy to wear it is, but because of the fit of everything, it’s very put together and styled at the same time. Anyway, I hope you like this outfit, do let me know! And tell me what you think of this jacket too! Lorna xx.

The Design: The design of the Elva is actually my new favourite from Allsaints. It’s a hybrid between their two best sellers, the Dalby (which is my other favourite, see my review here) and their Balfern (see my review here). As you can see from the photos, it’s so perfect! The zip detailing on the sleeves, and the two side pockets, make it a no fuss detail leather jacket, with black rivets, and I’m obsessed with that. It fits like a dream too. The cut as you can see is a little longer, so it hits just below the top of the hip bones, which I love, and it flares out a bit with more of a straight cut. I think this makes it really edgy and more rock inspired, and that’s why it has quickly become my new favourite!

The Sizing: I would say the Elva runs true to size, if not a little on the smaller side, but I ended up getting two of these jackets, one in a size UK 8 and one in a UK 10. The simple reason for that is because I had a discount code, and because the UK 8 was so perfect and beautiful, I wanted a bigger size to wear in the Winter with knitwear too. The UK 8 is very fitted, and looks absolutely amazing with t-shirts, while this one I’m wearing here is the UK 10 and fits perfect with knitwear underneath! So I can literally wear this jacket all year round, and that is a dream come true! I think you can tell that’s how much I like it based on the fact that I own it in two sizes!

The Leather: The Allsaints Elva leather jacket is made from 100% sheep leather and it’s actually more of a stiffer leather, which does have a smell to it because of the dye. It’s a beautiful black that has blue undertones to it, so it’s a cool tone black and not a warm tone. I would say the smell, from when you first get it brand new, is kind of electrical smelling, ha ha. But the leather is soft, an amazing quality, and comfortable to wear, even though it’s not super soft and buttery, it seems much more durable. Which makes it great for a casual leather jacket that you don’t have to be delicate with!

The Details: I mentioned a few of the details above, but this jacket has a normal zip closure in silver, long sleeves which have silver zips on the cuffs, a standard length, shoulder epaulettes, which I think really add to the design and make it flattering, and two simple zipped pockets which are functional, with all black rivets. The lapels also have poppers so that they will stay flat if you want them to. It’s minimal, but has just enough detailing to make it an incredible leather jacket with an outstanding fit.

Overall Opinion: I think you can tell in this Allsaints Elva Leather Jacket review that I give it 10/10! I would potentially knock maybe a .5 off for the smell of the leather, but that fades in time. It’s just perfect all over, in both sizes, and it’s incredibly flattering. I’m thinking of selling most of my others because I’m probably just going to be living in this one! I always found the Balfern too short and the belt annoying, and the Dalby is perfect for being super clean and minimal, so combining the both to produce this Elva love child is heaven! I love it! And for £298 (you can get 15% off) you can’t go wrong! It’s such an amazing quality jacket with a perfect fit, like a designer brand, but affordable.

Is Elva and Dalby both slim fit in cutting? I saw you bought a UK8 in Dalby too, is there big difference in cut/ measurements?

Hi! Yeah, there’s a difference. The Dalby is slim cut in the waist, where as the Elva flares out a bit. The Elva is also a little bit longer!

What’s your US sizing? I just bought this jacket I hope it fits. I’m usually a medium-large, 8-10 with 30 waist and 5’5 tall

My US sizing in that jacket would be a size US 4 and US 6, depending which one I wear. So I would say it runs true to size, I’m usually a 4-6 in the US. What size did you buy?

Hi I went with the 10. Do you think it will fit according to my size? Lol

I think that should be ok as that’s a 14 in the UK and sounds about right!

Hi! I’ve never tried leather rider jackets and I decide to get one in black. I usually wear jeans, long skirts and dresses.
The Balfern is more classic especially the belt details but I think it’s a bit short to me. The Elva is long enough but a little bit long for dresses. Balfern’s belt design looks great but I’m not sure if I like it or not. 🤔
If you have to choose only one between Elva and Balfern, what’s your choice?

100% the Elva for me personally! It’s my favourite leather jacket from Allsaints as I have a longer torso. The belt on the Balfern is quite problematic for me. I mean everyone loves it and it’s one of their most classic, but for me, I prefer a sleek silhouette. I’m actually selling my Balfern, if it’s your size?

100% Elva??? Wow..!! I also have longer torso. Hmmm…. I’m living in S Korea and Elva is 30% off now but the Balfern is more popular with Dalby here. I couldn’t find any reviews on the Elva so I googled and finally found your website luckily.
When I try them on, I feel the Elva is heavier and thicker than Balfern. What do you think? If it’s a same size, Balfern is more slim fited?
        I’m 5.4 ft 132 lb and I don’t like tight fits so I think I will choose UK10~12.

The Elva for me is a little thicker, but more structured. It’s really nice. Dalby is a beautiful jacket too though! I LOVE that cut! The Elva has more of a biker fit I think, where as Balfern is more slim fit. I’m 5ft 4 and 145 pound, taking size UK 10.

    Hello!
I went to the Allsaints store to try the Elva but there were out of stock. I tried the Dalby in size US4 so I could have an idea of the sizing and it actually fit perfectly.

Would I be safe to order online the Elva in size US4 or should I go one size smaller since it has more of a biker fit?

    Thank you!

Hi Sammy! My Elva is a US 4 and my Dalby is also a US 4, so I think you should be ok? My Dalby fits ever so slimmer than my Elva, however, this could just vary from jacket to jacket. Every Allsaints leather jacket is hand made and they can vary in fit, so if you can, order a couple of US 4’s just in case one fits better than the other. That’s my method!
If you could use my link, that would be amazing!

Can you possibly give your measurements? I can’t go in store due to covid and really am trying to figure out the best size. A rep said an 8…but everything I’ve read said to size up. 37-31-36 and broad shoulders.

Hi! I’m about a 38 – 28 – 38. I can’t do the size UK 8 up though. Honestly, as all Allsaints jackets run differently, if you can, order two! Order two sizes and if possible, 2 of each, if you can put that on a credit card during the sale. The Elva is great, but after time has gone on, I think I prefer my Balfern, so I recommend trying that one in Black too if you don’t have it! Could you use my links? 😀

Hi Lorna! Your blog has been so helpful. I just got my first allsaints leather and love it. US size 4. My measurements31 bust 25 waist. It’s the conroy leather biker. It seems to fit like a glove which I love. Can you tell me if these jackets stretch much? Worried about getting a 6 as I don’t want to lose the sculpted look of the fit but know I can’t layer much underneath which is ok. I know it’s supposed to be like a second skin so I’m just curious about your experience with your leathers stretching. Want to be sure! Any info appreciated thanks!!

Hi Nancy, I don’t own Conroy so I don’t know if it stretches much. I can’t ever get it to fit, it’s too tight in the shoulders and long in the sleeves. How tall are you? My measurements are 38 bust and 28 waist, and the size 6 was too big on me, and the size 4 really snug, but I’m a lot bigger than you, so I’m just wondering your height?

Thanks for your reply! Im 5’3” ! The next size up isn’t even available right now which would be a 6 and I was worried it would be too big. The shoulders do feel a bit snug and I have long arms so the sleeves are perfect. Im hoping for a bit of give in shoulders or to at least be able to order a 6 before my 28 day return grace period to try it out. . Can I send you a photo of how it looks on me and maybe you can judge from that? I appreciate your help!! It’s such an investment an I know worth it though .

Thanks for your comments =) I read & reply every one =)
