My Interests – The Misconceptions Of Me

Because I’m into fashion, I’ve often come across people who have mistaken me for someone who is shallow or doesn’t have much depth to them, which I think isn’t fair. Sometimes when I’ve mentioned something I’m into (outside of the fashion world) they’re shocked and never expected that of me. This is why I wanted to do this blog post from a more personal point of view, explaining the misconceptions of me. Most of us are not just a once track mind and shallow. Sure, fashion is a huge part of my life and one that I’ve built my career around. I do get excited when I save up and buy new items, or when I’ve put together a really nice outfit, but that’s only a small percentage of my personality and it’s often the only one you get to see. I can’t say this is the case for every fashion blogger out there, but I’m pretty sure that most would tell you they’re into much more than just fashion though… So, what do I like? I’m actually a huge tomboy at heart with a more masculine brain, I’m a big nerd, and a very deep thinker. Here are 5 things that I’m very into, but my personality traits will come in a separate post for part 2. Space & Astronomy I’ve mentioned a couple of times that I’m very much into space and astronomy, so much so that I even have apps on my phone which locate the current position of planets, the sun, the moon, constellations, the space station etc and I will regularly go out and look…

Health Update: Gluten Free, Pro-Biotics, Paleo & More

I’ve been wanting to write this blog post for a little while, but I wanted to make sure everything I have been doing was working, and it wasn’t just coincidence. I’m so happy to have been able to find out the reasons for the issues I have been suffering, and most of them are things that I’m working on right now in order to try and get healthy again, illuminate my digestion and bloating issues, and feel free. So these are the things that I’ve been working on for the past few months. Gluten Free I adopted a gluten free diet quite a few months ago (with slip ups along the way) and I was literally shocked at how much gluten impacted my life, without me even realising. I had the test done to check I wasn’t Celiac, and thankfully I’m not, but I definitely am gluten intolerant. Cutting it out of my diet has eliminated so many issues for me, including my cystitis, nerve flare ups, temporary paralysis, digestive problems, bloating, gas, lethargy, gastritis… the list is endless! Now whenever I have eaten gluten (accidentally or through choice), I suffer a lot. I start to get cystitis, my stomach swells up like a balloon, the gas is painful, I feel extremely tired, and very cranky. I’ve been doing trial and error with foods and I’ve found out that it’s not just wheat flour gluten that hurts me, it’s rice flour, maize, and tapioca starch as well, so I don’t even eat the gluten free foods as they are usually made with those instead. It seems that any flour, no…

Oh My Gosh! I’m Engaged!

And… Here it is! The exciting news that I have been keeping a secret for a month! I’m engaged! I honestly still can’t believe it when I type the words ‘I’m engaged’ or especially when say the words ‘my fiance’. For just over 8 years now I have been used to calling Adam ‘my boyfriend’ so the adjustment is taking some time! I know you will want the story about the proposal, how it happened, where it happened, some backstory and of course details about the ring, so here you go. It was 3rd of July around about 8:30pm on Porthminster Beach in St. Ives during our holiday. Adam and I had decided to go to the beach at sunset to shoot my outfit photos and enjoy a stroll along the sand (you can see the full outfit here). I saw a photographer there taking some photos of the boats and scenery, so I did wonder what he was up to, but while we were walking closer to the edge of the sea, I saw Adam get something out of his bag out the corner of my eye and when I turned around, he was holding a ring box on one knee! He’d hired a photographer from St. Ives without me knowing, so I would have photos of the moment forever and to share with all of you, which I thought was amazing! Adam gave me a beautiful speech which I have written down, but as it’s personal, it’s not something I want to share publicly with anyone as it’s just between him and I, but let me tell you…

It’s Time For A Hair Change

Going For A Short, Blonde Ombre Hairstyle You may remember last year in May, I cut my hair shorter. I went from it being below my middle back (see here) to being short, just below my shoulders (see here). I then had a lot of highlights put in to make it a lot blonder since my natural colour has gone quite a dark, dirty blonde (see here). I haven’t had it cut since the end of Summer last year due to a lot of health issues, but I’ve booked in a hair appointment this Thursday and I am super excited! I want to change it again and go even shorter! Plus, I might want a different colour as well. See my inspiration and what I’m planning below!

Health Update

It’s been a little while since I updated you all about my health, and I had this post scheduled in for Sunday but unfortunately haven’t been able to do any work. I caught the flu on Friday night and have been suffering badly with it since. The usual shivers, sweats, temperature, sickness, body aches, cough… But it’s developed into a viral tonsillitis too and I lost my voice a couple of days ago and have the most sore throat, which is made worse with my cough. My voice has come back a little bit, but all it is is croakiness unfortunately and it’s really bad. I’ve just been in bed for days now, trying to rest and get better. I’ve been extremely off my food too so haven’t been eating much at all, but have been drinking lots of warm water and honey, taking my cold and flu tablets and trying to eat protein, fruits and vegetables, but it’s very tough. This is the worst I have felt in a very long time, so much so that it’s impacted my work. Adam and I had a weekend planned of a trip, outfit shoots and product shoots, but unfortunately it had to be cancelled and we both had to stay in. I actually ended up catching the flu from him, so we have both had a terrible weekend. He’s a lot better now though, but as with every illness I get, its length and intensity is always made worse because of having M.E. as my body isn’t strong enough to deal with it properly. I can only hope that the flu…

Looking Back At 2015 & Welcoming 2016

Welcoming The Year 2016 It doesn’t feel like that long ago when I was doing my roundup of 2014 and talking about 2015 as a new year. This whole entire year has flown by and I can’t believe just how fast it’s gone now that I think about it. It’s kind of scary to think that I will be 28 this year and before I know it, I’m going to be 30! Wow. In time honoured tradition, I wanted to do a roundup of my favourite outfits and things that happened during each month of 2015, which you can see below, but I also wanted to take the time out to go through a few changes and ideas that I’m having for this brand new 2016 year. So what’s going to be new for 2016 on Raindrops of Sapphire? Due to me having had a lot of health problems over the last 6 months or so, I really need to focus on getting better both physically and mentally and that means not stretching myself and pushing myself to the limit. I will say, in all honesty, that fashion blogging isn’t as glamorous for me or what the photos lead people to believe, I actually do struggle quite a lot with the photoshoots during the Winter months. Living in England makes it very difficult to get the right lighting, avoid rain, avoid wind and to not freeze my butt off while taking photos, so for the rest of the Winter months, I will only be posting 2 blog posts a week. One of which will be an outfit (but I will…

My Christmas Week Photo Diary

My Christmas Photo Diary I thought it might be nice to share with you my week of Christmas. I don’t usually do this as I’m often busy with other blog posts around this time of year and maybe just quickly show some presents that I got, but as I spend the week with Adam leading up to Christmas, we did some fun things which I thought might be good to document. This does include seeing reindeer for the very first time too! I hope you enjoy my Christmas photo diary!

The Key To Happiness

An interview with me on the key to happiness and being present Since coming out about my illness (M.E) and working with the M.E organisation, doing a couple of interviews and trying to answer all of your questions on it, I thought I would pile together some of the important and life changing questions from you and answer them in this post. I wanted this post to be about happiness, clarity and well-being, finding an internal strength and calmness even through the struggles and that’s something that I am on my way to achieving in full. I was sent these questions by most of you as readers, but the lovely Lindsey McKeon (who I interviewed before) asked me a few too and you can see those three first. I put them first as I think that’s fitting for the order and because she always asks such thoughtful and inspirational questions, which gets me started off well, but the rest of the questions are just as important and help give the interview depth. So why am I doing this interview? That old saying about when life gives you lemons, I see it as you have three possible options. 1 – You accept the lemons, you eat them, you go about your business. Sometimes slicing them a little or sprinkling them on your food, but the general rule is that you eat them. 2 – You complain about the lemons, you wanted oranges instead. You sit there and watch them go mouldy, getting angry at having the wrong fruit. 3 – You make lemonade. I know this is the usual answer, but…
