Get To Know Me More

ME2 Get To Know Me More

I thought it would be fun to do another questions and answers post so you could get to know me a little bit more than the amount you currently know. I have some older Q&A posts from over the years, but this one includes some really random questions. If you have anything else you want to know, just leave me a comment and I will answer!

1. Were you named after anyone?

No, I wasn’t. My parents decided on my name the moment I was born. Apparently I looked like a Lorna lol. Although my middle name is named after my grandmother who unfortunately I didn’t get to meet.

2. When was the last time you cried?

This was a couple of weekends ago watching The Vow actually. Gosh that was so sad!

3. Do you like your handwriting?

Yeah I don’t mind it, it’s quite neat and rounded. I used to try and perfect it at school. That was a long time ago though and now I mainly type rather than write.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

I actually do, but not in a mean way, it’s always in a joking way. I tend to prefer to have fun and banter rather than be serious all the time, it’s much more enjoyable icon smile Get To Know Me More

5. Would you like to bungee jump?

I would, but not by my feet. I would rather do one where the rope is around your waist so you are in a sitting position. However, I know it would make me ill. I’m very sensitive and get vertigo from the slightest things now I’m older. In my mind I would love to though!

The Little Things That Make Me Happy

HAZE The Little Things That Make Me Happy

I think it’s fair to say I have been dealt more than a fair share of rubbish throughout my life, which I try not to dwell on, so it’s always the little things in life which I try to reflect on that are so important and keep me going. I know I am wildly obsessed with clothes and fashion in general, and wearing something I have wanted for a long time honestly does make me happy, but the best things in life, which are usually free, are what make the days special to me. So, I thought it might be interesting to list a few things that make me smile and happy inside when times are tough. What are some of the things that inspire you to keep going?

  • The love that I get from my pets, it’s priceless and they are part of the family.
  • On a Sunday when my mum cooks a roast dinner, the smell and warmth radiates through the house.
  • Simply holding hands with my wonderful boyfriend.
  • Appreciating nature in the summer time while listening to the animal sounds.
  • A smile or a nice gesture from a stranger. It restores my faith in humanity.
  • Seeing years of hard work finally paying off.
  • Getting really involved in a great book.
  • That warming feeling in my stomach when I help someone out.
  • Snuggling up and watching a romance movie.
  • The way my boyfriend carries our camera and takes my photos without question.
  • Listening to beautiful songs and expressing myself through singing.
  • The butterflies in my tummy when my boyfriend and I first got together.
  • Being near fresh water, like a stream or a lake.
  • Tidying up and organising my bedroom after it’s gotten really messy.
  • Seeing couples out and about exchanging gestures of love.
  • Getting a back massage from my boyfriend when my back always hurts.
  • Daydreaming about the crazy and interesting ideas I always have.
  • And last, but not least, reading the lovely comments from all of you.

20 Random Facts About Me, Lorna

lorna 20 Random Facts About Me, Lorna

For one of my personal posts, I thought it might be fun to do another Q&A, but one with random questions that I found online. Ones people wouldn’t really ask, but they are interesting to find out about others in my opinion. So I’ve answered 20 random questions about me. Hopefully it helps you get to know me a little better icon smile 20 Random Facts About Me, Lorna Feel free to answer any of these about yourself in a comment if you want to as well, it’s always nice to get to know people icon smile 20 Random Facts About Me, Lorna

1. What’s a nickname only your family calls you?

I don’t really have a nickname, since my name is shorter anyway, most of the time I’m just called ‘Lorn’ without the A.

2. What’s a weird habit of yours?

Unfortunately I bite my nails. It’s a bad one to have, not really weird, but I tend to bite them in times of stress or worry.

3. Do you have any weird phobias?

I wouldn’t class them as weird, but I am severely phobic of blood tests. Even just thinking about it makes me feel nauseous, I pass out with them. I’ve avoided them for such a long time now as it’s impossible to go through with it without some form of sedation, it’s that bad. I think it comes from bad experiences as a child, I was in and out of hospital a lot when I was little with illness and it’s stemmed from that. I’m also really really scared of sharks, mainly great white sharks, just seeing their faces makes me panic, it’s really bad. Those are my only two severe phobias. I do have a fear of wasps too, I’d never hurt one, but being near them sends my heart racing and I get panicky. I’ve been known to bolt out my room and sleep on the sofa if there is one in my bedroom.

4. What’s a song you secretly LOVE to blast and belt out when you’re alone?

I don’t really mind how cheesy it is, but it’s definitely It’s Raining Men by The Weather Girls! I love that song so much! It’s a classic! I also love Heaven is a place on Earth and most of the cheesy 80′s songs and some 90′s, ha ha.

5. What’s one of your biggest pet peeves?

Generally I’m fairly easy going and accepting of people, but one thing that I can’t tolerate by me is people chewing. That sound of food sloshing around in someones mouth by my ear really frustrates me for some reason. I’m not a fan of that. I also don’t like crowds, that’s an annoyance of mine. I get quite claustrophobic, so being in a crowd makes me uncomfortable. Also, this one is really strange, but I don’t like those really clicky keyboards, the loud really fast tapping sound drives me mad. Other than those things, I’m generally ok!

6. What’s one of your nervous habits?

That would be the same as I mentioned above, I bite my nails when I’m nervous. I also pick things, like my fingers or my skin somewhere. It’s not good, but most of the time I don’t know I am doing it.

7. What side of the bed do you sleep on?

I sleep on the left side of the bed and I sleep on my side, I can’t sleep on my back for some reason.

8. What was your first stuffed animal and its name?

I can’t actually remember. I’ve had so many cuddly toys though, I still do, I love them and think they are adorable. I have quite a collection. I have a giant Eeyore from Winnie The Pooh and lots of Tatty Teddies and more!

9. What’s the drink you ALWAYS order at Starbucks?

I don’t actually go to Starbucks… Yeah I know, you probably think I’m strange ha ha. I don’t like coffee though, I think it tastes horrible. I have a very sensitive body so the only things I’m actually able to drink are filtered water, fresh fruit smoothies as long as it’s not too acidic and Soya milk. Everything else aggravates me and I’m not able to drink it unfortunately. I’m used to it now though, so I usually only drink water anyway.

10. What’s the beauty rule you preach… but never ACTUALLY practice?

I don’t know about this one. I usually always follow most of my regimes.

11. What makes you happy?

There are a few things that make me happy. Spending time with animals is the main one. I love spending time with my cats and cuddling them. There is something about being with animals that makes me so calm and happy. Obviously spending time with my boyfriend too, that’s always nice. Reading is another one. I love getting books and delving into a new world for a while. Listening to happy songs too. Also, when the sun comes out and it’s really hot, that makes me happy. I love summer! If we ever get a proper one anyway. Mainly it’s just the little things in life which make me happy, like spending time with people I love and like and being with nature. That’s why I like living in the countryside.

12. Do you have any “weird” body “skills?”

I do actually, it usually grosses people out, but I was born with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. I know a few people have noticed before from my photos that I’m ‘knock kneed’ as they called it, but my joints are not really as they should be, so I can pop them out at will. I can just pop my hips and shoulders out and not feel any pain at all from that, I’m also really bendy and have stretchy skin from the syndrome. It’s actually not a nice thing to live with and it causes me a lot of aching pain sometimes, but I can make light of it and laugh at myself really easily as I don’t take myself too seriously, so with that I think I can call those my weird body skills lol.

13. What’s your favorite “comfort food”/food that’s “bad” but you love to eat it anyways?

Umm, generally I’m really good with my food, I’m incredibly picky and due to my sensitivities I have a limited diet anyway, so I just end up regretting eating the bad foods. It would definitely be chocolate though, I shouldn’t eat it because of the dairy, but sometimes I do anyway. I can’t help it, especially when Hotel Chocolate is involved! The 35% Milky Milk bar is the best ever.

14. What’s a phrase or exclamation you always say?

I actually don’t know this one. I’m not aware that I overuse any phrases, but maybe it might be something like ‘oh my goodness’ or ‘oh dear’ or being typically British, it may be some remark about the weather, ha ha!

15. Time to sleep – what are you ACTUALLY wearing?

Pyjamas! I have a selection of cute pajamas, like foxes, pandas and zebras etc. Usually consisting of trousers/pants and a t-shirt or long sleeved top. I get cold easily, so I always like to sleep in lots of clothing. I also sleep in my socks because my feet are always frozen.

16. What’s the strangest talent you have?

I don’t know if many would class it as strange, some would, but I’m able to pick up on peoples emotions and feelings really easily. I’m usually able to know when people are upset or if something bad is going on by sensing it so to speak. I also have hyper senses, something I’ve always had, so I have really acute hearing and can hear things a lot of people can’t. For example I can hear an old TV on standby when I’m not in the room. I can hear that high pitch ringing sound it gives off. Same with a lot of plugs, they drive me crazy sometimes with the ringing they make in my ears. However with deeper sounds, I’m not so effected by them. The same thing goes for my sense of smell, that’s really strong and I can usually smell things before other people can. It means I can’t wear perfume though and I can’t be around aerosols or sprays because they make me ill. I don’t know if you can call it a talent, but sometimes it comes in handy. I’m like a spy with my hearing!

17. Who is the last person you usually think about before you fall asleep? Family, friends, boyfriend…

Usually my lovely boyfriend. He’s the last person I say night to via text message and the first person I say hi to in the mornings. If it’s not a person though, it’s usually my blog or something blog related.

18. What was your childhood nickname?

Uncle Fester… This was what my family named me when I was born because I was bald for an entire year. They didn’t think I was going to get any hair, ha ha. This one stuck for some time. I think I more than made up for it in the hair department now though, I have way too much.

19. Have you ever cried during a movie?

Yes, I have. Quite often actually. I have it both ways where I get emotional over happy things as well as sad things. I usually cry every time I watch Dear John. I try not to cry too much though because it always gives me a headache and makes my head feel so uncomfortable, it’s not nice.

20. Have you ever been in a car accident?

I haven’t been in a car accident, but I have been in a coach accident. I’m still mentally scarred from that. It was when I was younger, I was about 9 and we had gone to Weymouth beach for the day with my mum, dad, brother and grandparents for a day trip. The train had been cancelled on the way back due to a rail problem so they supplied coaches to get us home. Unfortunately the coaches were really old and the one behind us crashed right into the back of us and shunted us down the hill because the breaks had failed. I remember his face covered in blood and the people in the coach were trapped because the doors wouldn’t open and it was all crushed. It was awful. I suffered really bad whiplash and nightmares, but I was very lucky to basically be uninjured.

What I believe though, was that it was all down to my senses or something along those lines. I was sat with my gran in the middle of the coach, towards the back, and other people at the front had got off at their stop, so I said to my gran, I want to go and sit right at the front. So we changed seats and sat at the very first seat and then no sooner after we changed seats, maybe 5-10 minutes after, that’s when the coach crashed into the back of ours. The people at the back of our coach were quite injured, but I still believe to this day, that decision to randomly move to the front stopped me from being injured. It’s crazy really.
