From Nothing To Something

As it’s M.E awareness week right now, I wanted to touch base on the subject that the charity is focusing on at the moment, and that’s isolation. With most chronic and debilitating illnesses, isolation and loneliness often follows it and it’s something that isn’t discussed very much at all. People are usually more interested in the symptoms and how you are physically feeling rather than the slow impact the isolation and being shut off from the world can actually have on you, so I wanted to tell my story on it. A year ago, as you know, I finally revealed to you all that I had the illness Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (or M.E for short as that’s quite a mouthful). You can read my full story on it here, but in a nutshell, I was diagnosed when I was 14 years old after being really ill for a year. Due to being exhausted and feeling so unwell all the time, it meant I found it a struggle to get out of bed most days and even just function, which then in turn meant I missed most of my last year of school, and overtime my friendships with people diminished. I don’t hold grudges or anything about that as when you’re young, your friendships with people are usually school based and involve going out and doing fun things, and since I couldn’t socialize anymore, it just went away over time and I lost contact with everyone as I was pretty much useless. I became a hermit and only found comfort and solitude inside my house as I was so exhausted all the…

Happy Easter & Happy Spring

Happy Easter & Spring Everyone! This is just a quick post to wish you all a Happy Easter! I know Easter was yesterday, but since today is East Monday, I still think it counts! I didn’t get chance to do an Easter costume for you all this year, but I’ve chosen some of my previous bunny outfits that I loved and also shared with you some inspiration photos of Spring, since it’s officially the Spring season now! What did you each do for Easter yesterday if you celebrate it? I spent it doing an outfit shoot and getting soaking wet from the rain and then having Sunday lunch with my family and Adam, so it was just a quiet day for me really. Adam and I did go to Bristol on Friday though to do some shopping and the weather was lovely, before the storm on Saturday/Sunday so I’m hopeful that Spring is definitely here and going to start showing itself soon! Lorna xx.

My 6 Year Journey As A UK Fashion Blogger

A Fashion Bloggers 6 Year Journey – How I’ve Changed Today Raindrops of Sapphire is 6 years old! It’s hard to believe that 6 years have gone by since I started my fashion blog in my bedroom on the 10th March 2010! I remember sitting there, setting it all up at night time and it took me right into the early hours of 4am, getting the design and logos right. Back then of course I was very new to blogging, I didn’t know what I was doing in terms of creating something successful as that wasn’t my intention, but I wanted a place online to share my photos of my outfits and my love of fashion with other like minded people, so that’s what I did. How it grew into what it is today (winning multiple awards, voted number 11 in the UK fashion blog round up, having over 2.7 million views etc) still seems crazy to me as time has gone by so fast, but I’ve worked so hard for years trying to create something I loved and now I consider Raindrops of Sapphire my baby, as I’m now self employed. For this post, I thought it would be a nice idea to document my journey over the 6 years and show you just how things have changed, not just in terms of my blogging ability, but also how I have changed too. The photo above really surprised me actually, how much my face has changed in 6 years! I had a cutesy, baby fat face for so long which made me look young, but the last 2 years…

Health Update

It’s been a little while since I updated you all about my health, and I had this post scheduled in for Sunday but unfortunately haven’t been able to do any work. I caught the flu on Friday night and have been suffering badly with it since. The usual shivers, sweats, temperature, sickness, body aches, cough… But it’s developed into a viral tonsillitis too and I lost my voice a couple of days ago and have the most sore throat, which is made worse with my cough. My voice has come back a little bit, but all it is is croakiness unfortunately and it’s really bad. I’ve just been in bed for days now, trying to rest and get better. I’ve been extremely off my food too so haven’t been eating much at all, but have been drinking lots of warm water and honey, taking my cold and flu tablets and trying to eat protein, fruits and vegetables, but it’s very tough. This is the worst I have felt in a very long time, so much so that it’s impacted my work. Adam and I had a weekend planned of a trip, outfit shoots and product shoots, but unfortunately it had to be cancelled and we both had to stay in. I actually ended up catching the flu from him, so we have both had a terrible weekend. He’s a lot better now though, but as with every illness I get, its length and intensity is always made worse because of having M.E. as my body isn’t strong enough to deal with it properly. I can only hope that the flu…

My Love For Hats

My Love For Different Style Hats I never used to be a huge fan of hats when I was younger, but as I’ve grown older and my style has evolved a lot, I’ve definitely become a lot more fond of them. You could say that I have quite a large hat collection now, ranging from floppy and fedora hats to beanies and bobble hats, all perfect for different occasions and different weather. I thought it might be a good idea to share with you a post on my favourite hats that I own and how different they can make my face or outfit look when I wear them. I would say that my all time favourite hats would have to be my burgundy wide brim hat which is very vintage inspired and my beige one in a similar fit (above) as it’s so versatile. These two hats always give a touch of elegance and a retro vibe to my outfits when I wear them, plus they suit my face shape extremely well, which is something you definitely have to look out for with hats. I’ve got a huge collection of beanie and Winter style hats which I live in when it’s cold out, but not only do they help hide your hair from a bad hair day in the Winter, they keep your body heat in which is important. I’ve got almost every colour beanie or bobble hat that you can imagine, even one with Captain America on it for my nerdy self! But my favourite one would be the cream/white fleece beanie from Topshop. For me and hats, it…

Valentines Day Jewellery From Pandora & Swarovski

Valentine’s Day Jewellery With Pandora & Swarovski I’m super excited to bring to you my next collaboration with jewellery company, John Greed. I’ve really enjoyed working with this company as not only are they super friendly and amazing, but they have such a fantastic collection of jewellery which is perfect for every day as well as occasions. For this feature, I chose three items which are ideal for Valentine’s Day and showcased them in a pink, romantic way. I know these will work really well for those of you who are still looking to get a gift for your ladies! So what did I choose? I first opted for this gorgeous Pandora Valentine’s Heart Beat Charm which I added to a silver chain as a necklace instead of putting it on the classic charm bracelet. It’s dainty and looks like a pretty piece of candy around my neck, which I love. The second item I chose was the Swarovski Stardust Pink Bracelet as I’ve loved this one for many months. You might remember the blue version I shared with you at Christmas, but the pink one is just right for Valentine’s Day. I love the netted tube as it’s filled with their fuchsia crystals, giving it that dazzling sparkle. It can also act as a necklace too if you want to wear it that way. Finally, to round things off, I chose the Pandora Daisy Flower Ring which just added a cute and girly element to the look. Flowers are always a prominent Valentine’s Day present, so instead of roses, I went with a daisy to mix it up. Combining…
