Sequins In The Snow

Sequin Bodysuit With Vintage Jeans In The Snow

First off, I wanted to say sorry for the mini hiatus, things got on top of me for a while and I couldn’t keep up with the schedule – it’s just been so busy! I have definitely been enjoying the snow though! I hear that it was only the south that got it here in the UK and the midlands/up north didn’t get anything, which surprised me as that never happens! We started getting the snow on Thursday, late afternoon, which was good because Adam and I had planned a day of shoots on the Thursday to get a lot of work done for him, and we timed it just right! Come Thursday night, it was getting pretty deep and blizzarding until Friday afternoon. For those of you who follow me on Instagram (@LornaRaindrops) you will have seen all of the snow stories I put up, and how amazing it’s been! I usually worry about the snow as it disrupts a lot of things, but this weekend turned out to be perfect, planning ahead, and no train cancellations or delays for the Sunday.

I’ve also found that it brings out the best in people, especially when it comes to random acts of kindness. Our neighbours were kind enough to shovel our pathway and grit it, without us even knowing, then others were kind enough to shovel the road for everyone that lives here. Then the local man who uses a wheelchair always goes out with his dog on his errands and my mum and I saw him stopped by the pavement, as we approached, a guy got out of his car and gave the man his gloves because his hands were cold and he couldn’t push his wheels on the wheelchair very well. I thought this was lovely. I also heard the story about an anonymous person who paid for 70 homeless people to have accommodation in a hotel for a week, to keep them out of the cold. Altruism is a wonderful thing, so to any of you out there who are in a deep freeze at the moment, don’t forget to do what you can for others in need and please do remember to put food out for the wild animals. Bird seed is always helpful if you place it under things that don’t have snow on them, as they can’t find their food when the snow is covering the entire ground. Just some little tips to make the world a better place!

Anyway, with that out of the way, I wanted to share with you the first of my snow photos! We shot about 5 different looks over the course of two days and I love them! This is my absolute favourite of them all though, which is why I’m sharing it first! I was wearing my new GRLFRND Karonlina High Rise Jeans in Last Dance which I styled with this Lovers + Friends Ever Bodysuit in Gunmetal, which I actually didn’t realise was a bodysuit at first! I took the jeans in a size 28, but they are tight as they’re 100% cotton, so can be quite restrictive! The bodysuit I took in a size small and it fits well.

To finish it off, I wore my ASOS Leather Western Belt which I bought a couple of weeks ago for an amazing price, and I absolutely love the Western inspiration! It was about time I have a silver buckle as well! I then opted for my Pretty Little Thing Grey Oversized Knitted Cardigan to complete the cooler tones, perfectly fitting for the snow. Now you might have noticed there are no full length photos here, so what shoes was I wearing? I had planned to wear the RAYE Congo Boots in White with this look for some time, however due to the 4 inch stiletto heel, I couldn’t wear them on the icy snow in case I fell (it just wasn’t a sensible idea and that’s coming from me, who’s out in the snow in barely any clothes, ha ha!). I took separate shots of the boots for you though, so you can see them! I think they’re gorgeous, white boots are so on trend and I can’t wait to show you them properly.

Those of you who know me will know that I rarely ever wear rigid jeans now, I literally live in and love super stretch as they’re so comfortable, so it was quite a difference going back to what I used to wear all the time. I used to love 100% cotton jeans, not just for the washes and vintage look, but because it was mostly all that was available, but since denim has evolved so much, I’m going back to my roots a little bit with my denim. I’m really feeling vintage style jeans as I think they add so much character to a bland pair of jeans. I love that you can dress them up just as much as you can a smarter pair of black skinnies though, which is why I adore this combination. I hope you like it too though, so obviously I would love your opinion on this outfit!

On a separate note too, REVOLVE have a SALE right now! It started late last night and there’s 20% off the entire website with the code – 20FORYOU – isn’t that amazing? It’s valid for the UK and Europe only though and ends on the 8th February 2019. There’s a few excluded brands, but all of the Revolve pieces that I’m wearing here are available and included in the sale, so you can get 20% off of them if you love them! Just click the text links above or the images below to shop the pieces. If anyone also wants 20% off of Pretty Little Thing, let me know and I can provide a refer a friend code! I hope you love everything, let me know in the comments below. Lorna xx.

That is such a fun sequin bodysuit and those boots are pretty but I can see why you decided not to wear them in the snow, would have been so tricky to balance! You’re brave baring your shoulders in the snow too, haha! I sometimes refused to take my coat off even if I’m layered up underneath for photos in winter and it never gets anywhere near cold enough for snow here, haha!

Hope that you are having a nice start to the week! The weekday wear linkup is live on my blog if you want to join 🙂

That’s a beautiful sequin top. Plus, those jeans look amazing on you. The white boots are fabulous, I’m sure you’ll enjoy them once the snow melts. It’s nice to hear that snow brought people together. It’s always great when people help one another.
We had a bit of snow too, I liked it but it melted away quickly, in just a few days. Now the weather is really warm here.

Good morning snowy Lorna! The outfit looks so unconventional in front of all that snow and that’s what I like about it most. I can’t wait to compare it with your other winter outfits but I would take a wild guess by saying that this one is probably the boldest with the shortest photo shooting ha ha. I mean, seriously the contrast between the snowy background and your bare skin is striking; the most interesting thing though is that you don’t show any signs of freezing 🙂 And I am curious about what you were thinking during the shooting? Anyway, you matched perfectly the outfit and the background with your makeup. Also, I like that your belt has this silver buckle to match your bodysuit.

I have some snowflakes falling down on my screen. Is it you or my iMac protests against the worst winter so far (snow for a couple of days only) 🙂

Ha ha, yeah that’s my snowflakes on my blog that I have falling down for a little while, part of my winter theme!

I was actually pretty cold, but I’ve been doing the modelling thing for so many years now that I’ve learned not to show any signs of suffering on my face, as it ruins the photos, ha ha. It was ok for the first 5 minutes, but it got freezing quickly after. Glad you like the contrast of everything, I intended to match it all well, but it’s also down to the editing too. So glad you like it!

  16. February 10, 2019 / 5:14 pm

I would say here you seem to cope much better with the cold than Jessica Rabbit back in October 🙂 at least visually; but I guess since then you’re trained already to withstand even harsher conditions haha…Great idea about the snowflakes: I see there are proper snowflakes but also dots and also dots that seem to evolve into snowflakes on their way down. Wish they flew around a little bit longer… would it be possible with your magic wand? 😉

Ha ha, I didn’t want them to last longer than that really as they get in the way of the photos, some people might find them annoying. The Jessica Rabbit photos was freezing, but also windy, so it’s usually the wind that gets me. In the snow it was pretty still outside which is why I could last longer I think!

Up here in Lincoln we seemed to be just about on the edge of where the snow started and ended. We had a very light dusting of the rooftops one evening – which wasn’t even consistent across the city itself! Some parts of Lincoln had nothing. LOL I totally agree with you that snow brings out the best in people. I remember in my childhood, in the rare times we had lots of snow, my dad used to use his tractor to help clear the drives and roadways outside the neighbours’ homes. I know they appreciated it as not much official attention was ever paid to the minor backroads of that village.

I love your outfit and look in this set of photos – you look absolutely stunning. 🙂 Those jeans have got to be up amongst the most eye-catching pairs that you’ve worn. They suit and fit you perfectly and go so nicely in combination with the shine and glow of the metallic bodysuit thing. You’re so right about how well the jeans can be dressed up. Of course I like the grey cardigan too.

I think there’s certainly a magical winter wonderland kind of vibe to this shoot. I’m glad that you didn’t risk the shoes… gosh… I can see the dangers in the photo of them with all that glassy looking ice! They’re nice shoes though and I’m sure would have completed the outfit perfectly.

Sorry that I’ve not been around your blog lately. I’ve not been feeling the best emotionally lately and, therefore, not very sociable on the whole. However, the week after this next one I’ve got a full week off work and I’m sure I’ll feel a bit more relaxed and I’ll try and look through all that I’ve missed here (pretty much all of January?). I hope you didn’t think I’d gone forever. 🙂

Hi Steven! It’s so nice to have you back! I often think of you and wonder how you’re doing, but this time I did wonder if you were gone forever or just extremely busy, ha ha.

I’m so glad you like the outfit though, the jeans are beautiful aren’t they? I always love how 100% cotton jeans look and feel, it’s just how uncomfortable they can be when wearing them that gets me, so I hope they loosen up, lol!

That’s so nice your dad used to do that too with his tractor! We pretty much live in the country road areas too, which aren’t gritted, so that’s why everyone comes together to help out, which I think is so kind!

      • Steven Whaley
        February 11, 2019 / 2:22 am

Thanks for the kind welcome back. 🙂 Oh, I am extremely busy in the sense that I have very little free time other than weekends. On weekdays I just have early hours of the morning between getting home and going to bed. No, I’d not go forever… but I’m a bit shocked to realise just how long it has been. 🙂

Yes, the jeans are simply gorgeous… they look quite comfortable and soft in the photos but I appreciate how deceptive that is. 🙂 I’m sure they’ll loosen up a bit… it’s a bit like breaking in new shoes, I guess. I think we’ve all just got very used to how much more comfortable most jeans have become in recent years. Though I suppose that as you have so many pairs of jeans it can be a bit of an issue for you getting a pair to loosen up in the sense that you don’t wear any one pair as often as someone who has a more average sized selection of jeans? No idea what the national average for how many jeans people in the UK have but it’s probably a statistic that you’ll know. LOL

          February 11, 2019 / 12:36 pm

I’m not 100% sure on the statistics for the UK, but I know the US is an average of 10 pairs of jeans for women, and they usually only wear 4 of them, ha ha. You’re right, I never wear a pair for long enough to break them in, so they usually just remain uncomfortable. I do love how these look though, so I plan on wearing them more for sure! 😀

          • Steven Whaley
            February 26, 2019 / 12:19 pm

Probably for men it’s also 10 pairs but they only wear 2 then? LOL One is in use while the other is in the wash? 😉 Seriously though… that’s an amazing statistic you’ve just given… that women hardly wear 60% of the jeans they buy? Wow! I’m guessing that might be true of other clothes too and not just jeans?

I think I’ve got 44 pairs of jeans at the moment… I strongly favour my favourite 12 or 15 pairs though so I’m as guilty as anyone of not wearing many of them very much. 😀

It’s crazy isn’t it? I’m thinking it’s more along the lines of you liked them when you bought them, maybe wore them once or twice, they weren’t as comfortable as you hoped, so you find yourself not wearing them much and they sink to the back of the pile. We all have our favourites, but have other jeans for ‘just in case’ so I’m guessing it’s along those lines! Or if you’re like me, you have a collection you love and are proud of, and give an even more shocking statistic to it! LOL!

              • Steven Whaley
                February 26, 2019 / 8:22 pm

Oh, much more justifiable as a collection that you’re proud of. 🙂 I can relate to that… a bit like my Doctor Who collection… I have all of the DVDs but that doesn’t mean I watch them constantly. 🙂 So I totally get the collection concept.

Lorna these images are beyond lovely, and I adore the glamorous outfit, against the snowy backdrop. I really hope you didn’t suffer too much for your art though!

It’s great when people do good deeds purely for the sake of it, and I love to see random acts of kindness. It’s thoughtful of you to remember that birds need to seek out food as well, and to think about the wildlife in your local area.

There’s also an attention to detail in your outfits which I love, and I see that here as well, with the elegant accessories.

I wanted to ask about the smoky eye you created for this look. It’s gorgeous! You don’t often refer to your make-up directly, but it would make a good subject for a beauty post. It looks like you’ve used eyeshadows to create the subtle winged effect, but I wondered what type of brush you use, and your technique for getting the shape right?

It’s a really romantic look, and looks mesmerising on you!

    Lots of love Saba xx

Thank you, Saba! I do love this shoot, it was one of my favourites and still is to date! It was cold, but this far into this career of modelling, I am very used to suffering and learning to put mind over matter for it, ha ha! And I love when people do random acts of kindness too, it shows that there’s still lovely people in life!

As for my make-up, I don’t usually talk much about it as I don’t think I’m very good at it or qualified enough to give any tips, but it’s my Charlotte Tilbury palette for smokey grey, and I use one of their angled brushes, which I draw the cat eye look on with the tipped brush and eyeshadow. I hope that helps? I just free hand it. I find it works best by angling it upwards a little and just doing a small line, then trying to get the other side to match, and then blending everything else in. Try doing the cat eye line first, then the rest of the eyeshadow after xx.

Thanks so much for giving more detail on how you achieved the dramatic cat eye. You could certainly deliver a high quality beauty post, and your make-up skills are better than you think.

Since the early days of dabbling with make-up, I’ve always favoured liquid eyeliner, but I like the softness of your approach here, as it gives more possibilities for blending and smudging. With liquid eyeliner, I’m always fearful I’ll make a mess. I’m thinking of trying something new now, so your tips have been very helpful Lorna!

        Xx

Being blonde and really pale skinned, I’ve always been terrified of liquid eyeliner in black, it’s too strong and harsh against my skin tone, regularly making me look like a panda, so that’s why I favour greys and powder mostly, as it’s a more subtle look. I generally just do what works for my face, I actually have no idea about tips for other people, ha ha. Beauty is never something I’ve really wanted to dive into as I don’t really have a passion for it, or care about it enough to want to create content on it, if I’m being completely honest. There’s so many other people out there with talents worth listening to!
