Mink Tulle & Velvet 50’s Dress

Little Mistress Mink Tulle & Velvet Dress With A Suede Jacket

Despite it being absolutely freezing outside, I’ve been bored of layering up with a million pieces and only shooting winter appropriate outfits, so this weekend I braved the cold for a while to show you a look I love, which we did outside a local farm house. I got this gorgeous Little Mistress Tulle & Velvet Dress in Mink from ASOS after falling in love with it. Isn’t it beautiful? It combines my love of velvet, pastel purple, tulle, and dresses in one! I thought styling it with my ALLSAINTS Plait Balfern Suede Jacket in Grey was a good idea, to match the RAYE Grey Heels. It’s sort of a very modern and edgy twist on a 50’s party dress and I like that.

I kept it classy with my beloved BVLGARI LVCEA Watch and jewellery though as I wore my new Kyoto Pearls (bracelets, necklace & earrings) to glam it up a lot. I have loved pearl jewellery for years and finding suitable pieces was always hard, but here are my ideal items. The double pearl earrings are my favourite, they remind me of the famous Chanel ones from a few seasons ago, but in a subtle version. You will be seeing these a lot more as I’m still wearing them now! The double twisted necklace is really nice too, I like how posh and chic it looks at the same time, plus I love beaded bracelets, so what’s better than pearl beaded bracelets? I also have them in grey which match my watch perfectly. Do you like pearl jewellery? I’d love to know what you think of my Little Mistress Tulle & Velvet Dress outfit!

Also, I wanted to share with you this cool video below. I collaborated with Clothes2Order on celebrity slogans as they have put quite a few famous ones (and not so famous ones) on their t-shirts. I was guessing a lot of them in their quiz (click here for the quiz) and I actually got most of them right! I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, ha ha. Anyway, I was thinking about a celebrity quote that I love and has made an impression on me, and it’s probably not what you think…

I know you know I’m a huge fan of Captain America and the quote that resonates with me is ‘I Could Do This All Day’ which he says in Civil War. It’s stayed strong with me as it reminds me to truly stay grounded and fight your way through life, no matter what it throws at you. I met this little kid on Twitter too, called Damon, and he’s a huge fan of Captain America as well. He’s battling cancer for the third time at the moment and his response was also ‘I Could Do This All Day’ so if he can fight and live by that quote, everyone can. What are some famous or celebrity quotes that mean something to you?

What I Was Wearing:
Dress – Little Mistress
Jacket – ALLSAINTS (similar & similar)
Shoes – RAYE (similar)
Jewellery – Kyoto Pearls
Watch – BVLGARI

Okay Lorna, these pictures are stunning and this is one of my favourite outfits/colour combo’s I’ve seen you pull out since I started following you. Absolutely beautiful. Also, I love that you tied your hair back, it just seems like perfect balance and shows off your jewelry gorgeously!

Thank you! I thought I would do something different and since it was elegant, I needed an up hairdo of some sorts. I like how it turned out!

Loooved your tulle velvet dress, and the shoes are really perfect for the outfit, as well as the lovely jacket. I think it’s a great look, looking retro, but still modern, a great combination. I like pearls a lot, and I loved your necklace and earrings. You are always so gorgeous! I watched the video and it is funny! I could never guess things right 🙂 Hope you have a very nice day, despite the cold weather!

This photo shoot, to me, has the feel of being two outfits for the price of one. I’m very struck by the huge difference between the photos in which you are wearing the jacket and the photos in which you are holding it. I like both looks… but I think the shots in which you are wearing the jacket have the edge. 🙂

The dress is lovely. It’s a beautiful style and gorgeous colours and I think, even if you’d not said anything about the 1950, I’d have mentally made the 50s connection. With the jacket added I think the outfit becomes something that’s much harder to define – past, present, future? I just can’t decide – but it’s an intriguing look and absolutely a winning one. 😀 I think, your imagination and creativity both seem to be set to maximum this year. 🙂

Oh, and I think there’s just enough clear skies and green grass in the background of these shots for this to pass as summer! Though I’m sure it didn’t feel that way. 😉

Oh, and I forgot… My favourite quote is (surprise…) from Doctor Who. It’s a line spoken by the Doctor in a 1964 episode of the show: ” As we learn about each other, so we learn about ourselves.” 🙂

      • January 25, 2017 / 8:54 pm

That’s actually a really good quote. I like that one. It’s very true as often the things we notice in others are what we end up seeing in ourselves, or conversations/interactions with others can have a profound change on us in seconds, meaning we learn more about ourselves every single day 🙂 Very good!

Thank you, Steven! I was lucky that day as it was sunny and clear, but oh so bitter! I think it was one of the coldest days of the weekend, typically, ha ha. The car was parked about 10 steps from where we shot them so I could dive back in and dust off the ice that grew on my skin, ha ha! 😀 You’re right though, it would pass for Summer to anyone not reading the text.

There is such a contrast with the jacket on and off though isn’t there? that’s why I wanted to show both ways in the photos as one way is very feminine and elegant, but the other is edgy and more casual. It’s surprising what one jacket can do to an entire outfit. It made me smile though when you said my imagination and creativity is on maximum, thank you! 😀

Oh my gosh Lorna you look stunning! I actually gasped in delight when I saw these images, and that dress is heavenly! I haven’t seen you styled quite this way before, and you remind me of a leading lady from a Hitchcock film. It’s such a glamorous look and you seem to be channeling Grace Kelly! It was brave of you to do this photo shoot with the cold temperatures. I do hope you were able to get yourself warmed up immediately afterwards, and didn’t catch a cold.

I like the quote you included at the end of the post, and the meaning behind it.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and manage to escape the cold!

    Lots of love Saba xx

Looking very picturesque hon, this would be a great look for a wedding. I know what you mean about being tired of shooting winter clothes, sometimes you just want to summer up in pastels, show a bit of skin tsigh… ( :
