Sunsets On The Beach Of St. Ives

This is the fourth and final outfit that we took during our holiday to St. Ives and I saved one of my favourites until last. This photo shoot took place on the evening before we were due to leave. Luckily, there was the most gorgeous sunset happening which ended up making the photos look absolutely magical. For this whole post, I’m not talking about it as an outfit shoot as I just wanted to share how beautiful the images are and the location, but for those of you interested, my dress is years old from an All Saints sample sale and I’ve never seen this one actually available for sale anywhere unfortunately. The detailing on it is so pretty, it just made the location that much more stunning.

I was supposed to put this article up yesterday for you, but some of you who follow my social media will know that I had such a busy day! I finally got to meet one of my best friends for years from Missouri in the United States yesterday! Sarah is over here on holiday in London and came to Bath to visit me, so we spent the whole day touring around my city and seeing the sights. It was so lovely to finally meet her and our friendship transitioned into real life perfectly! Then today I’ve been having some tests done which has been quite traumatic as my veins always collapse and I’m needle phobic, but my doctor managed to finally get some blood from an artery in my groin, so I’ve been in some discomfort and stress today as it was highly painful, but as it’s almost bed time, I’m feeling a lot better, thankfully.

I’m going to be posting a photo diary of St. Ives very soon, but I wanted to share the outfits with you first and some very exciting news to come before I round out the whole trip. I know, those of you waiting, it wont be long now! During this huge heat wave we have been having though (hello 32C, where did you come from?!) I have been longing to head back to the beach with Adam and relax, but unfortunately it’s far, far away and extremely expensive, so we can’t go back again until next year. So sad! All in all though, as a little update, I’m doing ok! In my next post coming on the 24th or 25th (unsure which date yet as this one was delayed) I’m going to be going in depth with a health post and how I’m progressing, for those of you interested. But in the meantime, you can enjoy these beautiful St. Ives photos which Adam shot. Lorna xx.

Lorna what a wonderful backdrop for your pictures… so scenic and pretty… the dress is really cute, it looks awesome on you xox

I am thrilled you were able to spend time with your friend that was visiting, how fun… xox

I have collapsible veins too and I feel like a pin cushion when someone is trying to get blood… thankfully I have never had to have one in my groin, I can only imagine how painful that was, I hope you are feeling better soon xox

Thank you, Launna. I’ve been pretty exhausted this weekend actually, very tired, but hopefully I will get better very soon! Sorry you have the same trouble, it’s awful isn’t it? But thank you for the lovely compliments xx.

    Wow Lorna!!! πŸ˜€

This has to be one of the most beautiful dresses I have ever seen. It’s just perfect!!! I’ll even go as far as saying that it’s going to seriously challenge the metallic flower dress for the position of my favourite of your non-denim outfits and photo shoots. This dress could almost have been designed for you. It’s perfect for your figure and look how gorgeously it goes with your eyes. πŸ˜€ I simply love it. It’s also a fabulous pairing with the location – and I hope that Adam is especially proud of these shots as I think they are among his very best work for your blog. πŸ™‚

It’s a pity that, if what you suggest is the case, that it never made it to the shops as I’m struggling to believe that it would have any trouble selling. Still, taste is so personal and my enthusiasm might be unrepresentative of the general public… But… I predict that next time I visit this thread, after you’ve released all the comments, I’ll see a lot of positive reaction on display from your male and female commenters alike. πŸ™‚

I am so happy for you that you got to meet your friend from the US. πŸ™‚ It’s always great fun to meet an online friend for the first time in real life. I’ve done this several times now both in the UK and in the US too. As you know, I recently was lucky enough to spend 2 days in London with my Canadian friend after 14 years of online friendship – and, like with you and your friend, the transition to real life interacting was so easy. Mind you, after 14 years we know each other pretty well. LOL The thing I love the most about living in the online age is that it’s possible to form really great and meaningful friendships with anyone anywhere in the world so long as they have the internet. πŸ˜€

Bit of a comment essay today from me… But there’s so much to talk about from your post today. πŸ˜€

Thank you so much, Steven! I did think you would like it, but I didn’t think it would become one of your favourites! The reason I have never worn it before is because it’s extremely heavy with all of the metal and bead work on it (really heavy!) and with the t-bar back of it, it means you can’t wear a bra, so it’s a bit impractical for me. So those two reasons alone I think are what meant it didn’t make it to the shops and just stayed as a sample. With all that being said though, it’s amazing for photo shoots. It just looks incredible and very flattering! The work that must have went into it is just gorgeous.

I’m glad you got to meet your friends too, I’ve only done it with three people actually and one of those was Adam. We met online and it transitioned into real life, so it’s definitely amazing to live in this time as like I’ve mentioned before, it’s allowed me to have an online social life and not be lonely or bored πŸ™‚ Are you planning on meeting anyone else?

      • Steven W
        July 24, 2016 / 1:17 pm

Ah, I see. The weight of the dress isn’t something that’s particularly obvious in the photos. I assumed it was very lightweight and summery but I’m sure that, now you mention it, the weight has to be a factor in it not reaching the shops. Nevertheless, it’s a stunning item and it suits you to perfection – so it’s lovely that you have it and hardly anyone else does. πŸ˜€

I’ve lost count of the number of my online friends that I’ve met in real life now. It’s quite a few anyway. πŸ™‚ Must be into double figures… πŸ˜€ Some I have met in the USA on holiday and some here in the UK (including at Doctor Who conventions). I don’t have any specific plans to meet anyone else at the moment but I’m always very open to the idea if the opportunity presents itself. πŸ™‚

I think they usually only make 1-2 samples of each item, so I would go as far as to think there’s only me or 1 other person that might have it! How cool is that? πŸ˜€ I do think it’s great being able to meet people though, I think it’s so helpful in finding people you match with in personality, as when you’re limited to just your area and meeting people the old fashioned way, it’s so hard to find common ground with someone and build a true connection. Don’t you think? πŸ™‚

          • Steven W
            July 24, 2016 / 2:04 pm

I completely agree. πŸ™‚ The nature of the places where people meet online provides a bit of common ground to begin with – making it easier to start a conversation. Such as everyone on Instagram being interested in photography – that’s a starting point… Then seeing the kinds of photos people take gives me big clues as to which people I am likely to have further common ground with. Also meeting people online through Doctor Who has always been a good starting point. πŸ™‚

Though there are also those surprise internet friendships too where the areas of common ground and experience are not enormous – but the personal chemistry and trust levels are very strong and are the main bonding forces for friendship. That’s how it is for me with the friend that I’m closest to on Instagram. πŸ™‚

It can work in so many different ways. πŸ™‚

I went back and looked at what you meant, and I can see it now! It’s like it’s sucking them in! It was actually really hard narrowing down these photos for which ones to post. We shot about 70-80 of them and that’s the part I struggle with, as obviously editing and posting them all is not possible, but I think I chose the best ones πŸ™‚

      • Steven W
        July 24, 2016 / 1:21 pm

Yes, you chose well indeed. It’s a brilliant shot. I reckon that if it was turned to black & white (or maybe sepia) it’d make a brilliant poster for a horror movie or a book cover for a horror novel. Something about the sea turning sentient attacking unsuspecting paddlers… πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€

Gosh these images are stunning Lorna, and the backdrop is magnificent! The dress you’re wearing is so pretty and feminine. I love the beading and silhouette of the dress, and it suits you perfectly. I can see why you love St. Ives so much, as it really is breathtaking.

I’m so sorry to hear about the recent health problems you’ve been having, and the discomfort you were in. It must be tough on days like that. I do hope you’re feeling better now and the worst of it is over.

On a positive note, that’s brilliant news about you meeting up with your long-term friend from the States. When you’ve known someone for such a long time through the blogosphere, it must have been surreal to meet up in person, in the best possible way!

I’m excited to hear your announcement, although I’m fairly certain what you’re going to say! (My spidey sense told me, when you hinted in your previous blog post. πŸ™‚ )

I hope you have a lovely evening!

    Lots of love Saba xx

I’m so glad you like it, Saba! Thank you so much! It’s genuinely such a beautiful dress, I really need to wear it more often!

I think the worst is over for me at the moment, but who knows. It’s very up and down for me lately, but I guess the test results will help determine things.

It is great that I got to meet Sarah, it was such a lovely experience. I’ve made a lot of friends online, but she and I just connect really well and have become like sisters!

And I can’t wait to see if what you think the announcement is actually is true! Yay! Just a few more days πŸ˜€

      • July 29, 2016 / 6:53 pm

I agree you need to wear the dress more often Lorna! It’s such a beautiful piece, it would be a shame to have it hiding away.

With regards to your health, I’m sorry to hear things have been unpredictable and difficult lately. I hope the test results are favourable, and you feel better and have no further problems.

I’m glad to hear you had such a positive experience meeting your online friend Sarah. It’s lovely to have opportunities like that, which wouldn’t have been possible before the internet age. Hopefully you took lots of pictures too!

I agree, you should definitely wear the dress more! It’s such a glamorous dress, it would be a shame to have it hidden away!

I’m sorry to hear that things were up and down with your health. It must be tough dealing with that kind of unpredictability. I really hope your health problems have improved now, so you have no further pain or discomfort. I hope the test results helped shed some light on things.

That’s great that you really formed a bond with your friend from the States. It’s unusual to come across people like that!

Thanks so much for replying Lorna. It’s actually the first shot I saw of you on the blog – faux leather skinny jeans with Hunter wellies, burgundy top and leopard print scarf (beautifully worn!) and amazing hat in aubergine, leaning against a tree. You look so chic!

Strangely I was looking for a pic of Fiona Bruce from Antiques Roadshow on TV: my partner told me she wore a great red and blue outfit with skyblue wellies in a recent episode and I wanted to see it so I tried Google – I didn’t find Fiona but I found you! This was just a couple of weeks ago so I’m new. I love the scenery you take us to and so many great outfits. I’ll have to work out how to show you you on my phone via social media. I only use Twitter really so I’ll have to work out how to do it!
