A Masculine Touch

The burgundy Deichmann Lace Up shoes

Over the many years that I have been writing and blogging, I have always found comfort in my own style and felt like I had a signature look. It wasn’t until the past year or so that I’ve matured even more and developed a liking for different trends and styles, so you could say that I have branched out a lot and really begun to experiment more with my clothes and accessories. Most recently, I have been into vintage inspired dresses and feminine looks, however, I wanted to change it up a notch and do more of a masculine, androgynous ensemble like this one.

I have always loved how some fashion bloggers and models carry off looks like these and I was very much inspired to try it for myself, with the help of Deichmann and a brand new shoe collaboration they have just released today. Following in the footsteps of Halle Berry, Cindy Crawford and Caroline Blomst, fashion blogger Hanneli Mustaparta is the next lovely lady to design a collection with the fashionable and affordable footwear brand, and it definitely represents her personal style down to the sole.

Lace ups, slip ons, Chelsea boots and heels,
This new Deichmann collection is just how it feels,
To fall in love with some gorgeous new shoes,
But my question to you is, which ones would you choose?

When I first saw the new Deichmann x Hanneli Mustaparta collection, I was instantly drawn to these edgy lace up shoes in burgundy. No surprises there since they are burgundy, but I was most attracted to the shape and style of the shoe. I’ve had a thing for lace ups and Oxfords for quite some time and had been waiting for the perfect pair to show up on my radar, and what better way to get a London Fashion Week inspired look like this than on a budget? I was shocked when I found out that these shoes only cost £39.99 too. The new Hanneli collection features lots of mostly flat, edgy slip ons (like these), tougher looking boots and a few pairs of chic heels and considering they are all so affordable, it’s a great way to try out trends you have been wanting to dip your toes into without breaking the bank.

So what did I pair these lace ups with? I wanted to keep things quite dark and masculine, so I went for my black tuxedo skinny jeans by AG to pair with a black vest top from River Island. I didn’t want to add too many unwelcome colours to this outfit as I wanted to keep it clean, classic and smart, so I finished it off with this sleeveless jacket in oxblood from Topshop and some minimal jewellery, just to bring a touch of elegance to the overall outfit and not completely take it down a male inspired route. We found a couple of great locations to shoot at too over the weekend. I think the floral garden scenery is a great juxtaposition to the outfit, while a more urban location also demonstrated how versatile the look is for daytime, no matter where you are. Comfort is definitely something I drift towards now and it often leads me to choosing a lot of flat shoes for my outfits, like a lot of ladies love to do, so I’m glad there’s so many gorgeous, non-heeled shoes to choose from in this collaboration. It definitely makes a refreshing change.

Shiny Patent Burgundy

The one thing I love most about these shoes is the patent shine that they have to them. Not only do they look expensive, but the blend of brown and black mixed in with the burgundy is gorgeous. It creates such a unique appearance and gives the shoes much more depth, making them standout from the other lace up Oxford style shoes out there. Isn’t the shade just perfect for the Autumn hues? I couldn’t resist shooting this photo with the golden leaves as I’m definitely ready to embrace the cooler and crisp air while taking in the warm tones of the trees. Speaking of which, the two tone effect and the minimal heel just makes these shoes that little bit more feminine and not entirely masculine, which is what you need when it comes to shoes like this, just to give them that edge.

Behind the scenes of the collection

Now getting to the Deichmann x Hanneli Mustaparta shoe collection as a whole, as you can see below, it’s definitely filled with edge, London underground vibes and a little mix of femininity. At over 100 years old, I think Deichmann couldn’t have teamed up with a better influencer if they wanted to for this type of vibe. Blending together fashion and affordability, it’s perfect for getting those essential, on trend shoes that you need for your latest blog posts, if you’re a fashion blogger like myself.

I did personally fall in love with the navy suede ankle boots and the black high heeled boots from this 10 piece collection originally, thinking they would match my style perfectly (which they would!) but I definitely wanted to break my boundaries and try something new. The Chelsea boots are also a winner in my book, how cute would they be paired with jeans for those Wintery wet days? Anyway, to round this out, what do you think of the new shoe collection that Hanneli designed for Deichmann? Which shoes are your favourite? I’d love to know in the comments below!

Wow Lorna, I would not normally go for a shoe like this, but the way you wear and style this has made me realise that I could wear it, and it looks really fabulous. Definately treating my self, thankyou for a great post 🙂 x

If this is an experiment then the conclusion has to be that it’s a terrific success. 🙂 Those shoes look so good with that outfit! 🙂

I think it’s great that you tried these shoes and, maybe, what is even greater is that they readily existed for you to try. It’s good to see a bit of a blur around the boundaries of what’s considered masculine or feminine in footwear.

A few weeks ago I decided I wanted to get some pink sneakers. There’s, unsurprisingly, not a lot of pink footwear out there for men. So I bought a pair of unisex Converse sneakers online. (You might have seen them on my insta from time to time.) Anyway, I’m very pleased with them and it’s nice to have something a bit different on my feet sometimes. 🙂

Thank you, Steven 🙂 I’m really glad you liked it. I was wondering what you might make of the whole look! I don’t think gender really matters a huge amount with clothing, of course guys can wear pink! No trouble with that!

Yes, we certainly can but we’re not given much chance or choice to do so. 😀 lol

Pink, Yellow and Purple… those are the three colours that are largely neglected in male clothing, in my opinion. Wish there was more available. 🙂

Oh, I forget to mention in my first comment how much I like the jacket by the way. I was, unusually for me, distracted and dazzled by the shoes and forget to mention anything else. LOL . But that’s such a gorgeous jacket too. 😀 I love the shape of it and the colour. Indeed I love how the colours and shapes in this whole outfit work together.

Hey! I love the way you styled your oxfords- you made a style of shoe I’d usually consider difficult to style relatively easy for me to incorporate into something I might even wear daily! I loved the slip on shoes that was featured in the collection photo you posted as well 🙂

Deichmann is actually my go-to shoe store here in Austria, Right now I an loving their chelsea boots and lace up boots!

I looove burgundy and this shoes, with the masculine touch, are amazing! I used to like Deichmann very much, when I lived in Germany, but now I am in a place that we don’t have it. I loved your long waistcoat and the necklace and the colors you chose for all really look perfect with each other! You are always very very beauiiful, dear Lorna!

Wow Lorna this menswear-inspired outfit really suits you! I love the shoes, and the way you’ve styled the whole look to be edgy and tough, with the addition of a few feminine touches. The detailing on the shoes is lovely. Your signature style is really beautiful and suits you perfectly, but this look is equally stylish. I agree, fashion is about reinvention, so we shouldn’t limit ourselves by feeling we need to stick to one particular style only.

It’s lovely looking at your past posts, and I really enjoy seeing the subtle differences in your style. It’s interesting to see how time shapes us all, and I guess that’s why I love photography so much, as it captures a moment in time that is unique and fleeting, but given a sense of permanence through the act of taking a picture. Anyway, I didn’t mean to get all deep on you! Keep up the good work!
