Braving The Rain In Navy

Firstly I’m going to start this post by saying please do excuse my hair here! As you know from me saying time and time again, it’s just so windy and rainy here all the time now, it’s sort of become difficult to take my photos not in the rain. So yeah, my hair is damp and frizzy from the wet and the wind, which is why it looks a complete state, ha ha. I did have my big parka coat on as well with the hood up and buttoned up to the top, to keep me warm and dry, but it didn’t look so good for the photos, which is why I took it off.

I’m wearing my new Zara Navy Blue Blazer which I got in the sale a couple of weeks ago. It has the most amazing burgundy elbow patches which I think really make the jacket! It’s really traditional since it’s a wool blazer, but I feel like the colour combination of it just makes it current and modern. I paired the blazer with my Diesel Skinzee Skinny Jeans as I love pairing dark navy blue with lighter blue, to keep the colour theme, but give it a contrast. Of course I had to wear my trusty Hunter Original Tall Navy Gloss Wellies again as I pretty much can’t leave the house without them at the moment and then I threw on my new Zara Burgundy and Navy Scarf for warmth. I also picked this up in the sale for a great price and it’s so soft and warm, I’m glad I did! I had had my eye on it for a while, so I’m glad it stayed in stock during the sale! Speaking of wellies though, I’ve been thinking of getting a new pair and I have seen some really cool printed pairs on Jones Bootmaker from Joules. You may remember I own some Joules black gloss wellies with pink ribbons at the back, so I was thinking I need a new pair! I’m not sure if I want to get a printed fun pair like in the link, or a pair of classic black wellies which I can wear with everything!

You may notice a couple of these photos are in a different location as I wasn’t able to shoot the close up photos in the rain, it had started to down pour and they were coming out blurry, so I took the close up details the next day when surprisingly the rain had stopped for a little while and the sun had come out! I definitely don’t recommend taking outfit photos in these conditions as they aren’t the best, but unfortunately I didn’t have a choice as I wasn’t seeing my boyfriend for two weeks and wouldn’t have any. Anyway, what do you think of the outfit? Do you like it? I thought I would wear something a little more traditional and country, since I live in Bath!

One day, I need to do some deep research as to how on earth wellies became fashionable 🙂
The very same dirty, floppy, foot-sweat producing wellies which we usually wore to keep us dry from ankle-deep rainwater puddles, blobs of mud and other nasties, and generally just keep us safe from the rainy british and scandinavian climate.
But combining them with the blazer actually works nicely. You look like a lady of the gentry.
The young frizzy haired lady of the manor about to walk her setter or spaniel, or getting ready for a morning ride on her favorite horse. Always looking deceptively casual, but secretly coveted by every man around her for almost effortless sensuality. My god, I’m already 10 minutes in to an episode of ‘Midsumer Murders’ .
In other words, I love this look, Lorna.

Oh my gosh lol, it’s like reading a novel! Since I’m a country girl though, it’s the right attire to wear! And since it’s raining so much, wellies do their job! The thing with Hunters is they don’t make your feet sweaty at all, they are a really good boot and really comfortable, so no sweat happens at all, otherwise I would hate them! I hate sweaty feet lol 🙂

Discussing sweaty feet with a night owl country girl is what makes you, your personality, and your blog such a joy. Almost makes me forget the embarrassment of getting sweaty hands from some of your sexier looks.

The floral ones are nice but I agree that you wouldn’t be able to pair them with that many outfits. They’d be fantastic for gardening though!

I think the reason why Hunters work so well is because they’re so obviously functional that they don’t really clash with anything. They do get paired with jeans a lot though which can be a bit frustrating if you like variety, particularly in this weather! I’ve been thinking about wearing them with shorts and long socks or tights on warmer days just to mix things up a bit.

Yeah, I think I am going to go for the plain black ones! I can wear so much with those! They do really work well for practicality and they just become accepted now, especially here as it rains constantly, it’s not unusual at all to see people out in their wellies, it’s completely normal! I’m glad they started to do them in brighter colours and make the more fashionable! I’ve seen people wear theirs with dresses and shorts before and I think they can look really cool, in a festival glam kind of way!

  5. January 7, 2014 / 3:15 am

Your hair doesn’t look wind-blown at all. Looks rather pleasing, actually. I am in love with your blazer. The patches on the elbows give it character. Thanks for sharing this elegant and unique outfit. See you next time.

Top notch outfit Lorna, love the entirety of it. The blazer is very cute, the kind im looking for as well and a nice touch with the rugby stripe scarf. Of course the wellies never cease to amaze me, you just look so great in them i can hardly believe it. Also are you sure those wellies are gloss and not original? I feel like the glosses have much more shine to them. Regardless, still look fabulous in them. Keep up the great work, i am recommending your blog to any of my fashion friendly friends!

Oh I’m 100% certain they are gloss, they used to be really shiny, but since I’ve worn them so much in the rain and never ever cleaned them, they aren’t as shiny lol. They have water marks and dust all over them which takes the gloss away, but I prefer them that way as I don’t like them too shiny, I prefer the matte look! I just ordered matte black original talls! I found them for an amazing price! And thank you for recommending me to people, that’s so kind!

I’ve never even seen a white pair from Hunter before. I think they would be too bright for me though, I tend to favour darker wellies. I love the chocolate colour, those are next on my list if I decided to get more lol!

The chocolate ones are really nice. I think id like a pair as well. I wore my pink wellies out shopping today, got some really great compliments. One lady was nice enough to notice i wear them for a cause, so i bought a polo from her to help her commision.

Lol no maybe when i buy me a pencil skirt one ill wear my hunters with it. With the swing skirt i wore a white crinoline to give the skirt its poof and some red pumps with white bows on the fronts and just the base white belt. Ill eventually get a 2 inch one for some added waist. So what do you think??

It depends entirely on your calf sizing, some guys need the adjustable back while others are fine with the normal. But I think the classic black, blue, brown or green are great for guys!
