Wearing Wellingtons For The Rain

(Jeans – Similar, Cardigan – Exact, Scarf – Similar, Wellies – Exact, Ring – Exact)

You all probably know by now that I’m not really a spur of the moment type of girl, I’m one that always likes to be prepared for things, one of those things is often the weather. Being British, we are known for constantly having endless amounts of rain and the forecast lately has been just that. It’s been pouring down every single day. I wore this outfit on Saturday when I went out for a quick lunch with my boyfriend. I needed some fresh air to help clear my congestion, but I knew it was going to rain which is why I wore my Hunter Wellies in Navy Gloss again and actually took an umbrella. My boyfriend thought I was crazy for wearing them and told me to leave the umbrella in the car, but since I like to be prepared, I didn’t. It’s a good job I took them though because a little while after we took these photos it literally bucketed down and one umbrella wasn’t enough, ha ha.

I wore my Diesel Fayza Boyfriend Jeans in 0800U with my Hunter Wellies (similar here) as I just wanted something incredibly comfortable and soft. These are the jeans that I bought at the Diesel outlet last month. They were such a great investment as I have worn them so much. The wash is gorgeous and the comfort is incredible! They are so casual! I chose a classic H&M tank top in white as a base to go with them, but then wore my new ASOS Purple Boyfriend Cardigan over the top for extra warmth and softness. I got this cardigan last week as it looked really pretty on the website, it’s made from 100% cotton and is so cosy, it’s great for those days where you just need comfort. To finish things off, I also wore a Rainbow Ring, also from ASOS, and then my Camo and Burgundy Scarf from Zara just to add some more colour and texture to the outfit.

Speaking of wellies though, I mentioned in my last post that I just recently bought the Hunter Short Boots in Dark Ruby. Those arrived today and are gorgeous so I can’t wait to start wearing them out as regular footwear at the moment. I have often loved the idea of the fun and quirky prints you can find on festival wellies (they have some great pairs on Spy Love Buy), which I think look amazing on loads of people, but since I have a more classic dress sense, I’m not entirely sure they would suit me. I think my style has evolved a lot over the last year or so, which is why I tend to favour the more plain wellies at the moment if I am going to wear them. I do always think about a floral pair or a heart print just for fun though, ha ha! Anyway, back to the outfit, what do you think of it? I wasn’t so sure on boyfriend jeans with wellingtons at first, but I think since these are skinny boyfriend jeans, they actually tuck into the boots quite nicely! But comment and let me know!

Hi Lorna, It’s lovely to see you wearing your Wellingtons again, perfect for the rain and you look so cool. I sometimes wear my Wellingtons when I meet my Boyfriend, he likes them and he’s going to buy me a fuchsia pink pair for Christmas.

It’s exactly like in Estonia – when it’s autumn you can be sure that weather is absolutely bipolar – even if it’s bright sunny outside in the morning, it will rain later! Weird weather .. ๐Ÿ˜€ But good that you are so prepared, I always end up with peep toe shoes and light skirts and then get soaked with rain -.-

These ones in this post are more comfortable because they are loose, but the other ones are pretty too and quite soft, but I would say these for comfort!

The weather is quite similar here in the Seattle area! I like that you can put something together that is functional and still fashionable because I know it can be difficult at times when it’s just pouring down rain and completely dreary! This is perfectly casual without coming across as sloppy, ADORE!!!

I have been on the prowl for a pair of Hunters myself this season and haven’t settled on a color. I can’t wait to see how you style the shorter version in ruby!!!

Do love the Diesel Fayzas!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yeah it is good being able to wear things stylishly and practically as well. The ruby ones are really pretty, they are burgundy so they will go with so many of my clothes! You should definitely get a pair! I know from reading that it’s always rainy in Seattle, ha ha! You are just like me there!

I love the cardi, scarf etc. And I love the jeans. And I love the boots…but, if I’m honest, I think the wellies would have looked nicer with skinny skinny jeans, rather than boyfriend skinny. But you know I don’t mean that in any malicious way! The cardi is gorgeous by the way! And like everyone else, can’t wait to see the short ruby pair!

Of course I know you don’t mean it rudely ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve always said I appreciate honesty and I do! I do prefer skinny jeans with them for sure, it’s slimmer and they fit in nicely, but since I was still sick with flu, I couldn’t be dealing with skin tight jeans and wanted comfort lol ๐Ÿ™‚

That is a great close up photo, Lorna! So pretty! I have a pair of black tall Hunter boots but they are trashed, I actually wear them for their functional purposes in the garden and around the yard as my work boots, cleaning up the shrubs, etc. so they are covered in mud, scratches and they’ve got a lot of white on them from aging…not very fashionable, LOL! I actually invested in a pair of Dubarry’s last year and they are perfect for rainy and slushy weather…and warm, too. I hope you are feeling better – the flu is just awful!

    Hi Lorna!
I just made some research about Hunter Wellies – and found your blog…
You look so amazing in this wonderful outfit! A great inspiration for me, if I’ll get my hunter wellies – hopfully very soon…
The boyfriend jeans tucked into the boots looks so great! Of course, skinny jeans also look nice – but also some kind of “normal”. With this jeans, the outfit look some kind of classic, comfy, elegant and a bit debonair. For me just fantastic, also because I dont’ like it to always wear skinny jeans myself (e.g. the most time not, I don’t think they fit me well…), and was not sure about tucking looser jeans into hunter boots. But now I’m not afraid any more :-).
A short question: How dit you tuck your jeans into the boots, that it fittet so well? Do you hava a trick ore did you “just tuck/put”?

    Greetings
    Christina

Hi Christina! Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m very happy you like my blog so much and that you like my Hunter wellies! I love them! I just tucked these jeans in and they stayed, they are a skinny boyfriend jean so they are fitted at the ankles, but I think other boyfriend jeans with a wider leg opening would work ok, they might be difficult to get in when you put them on though, so you could put an elastic band around your lower calf to hold the jeans in place? I have done this before with boots and it works! Just make sure the band isn’t too tight though! Which colour Hunter wellies did you buy?

      • Christina Held
        November 28, 2013 / 12:45 pm

Hi Lorna! Thank you for your quick answer and the good tip! An elastic band would be the solution – it probably works better than putting the folded pants into the socks first (wich was told to me from a friend at work ;-). I still have to order the wellies, but now (having seen your outfit here) I totally confirmed to order a pair (now that I know, that wider fitting jeans aren’t a problem ;-). I wasn’t sure about glossy grey oder berry; glossy black would also be nice and fit with erverything, but would also be some kind of “normal” ;-). But now I have seen, that navy is also a very nice and suitable colour…. :-). I searched throug your blog and found out, that you also have very nive welles from Joules! If you have to choose, wich ones would you prefer? Can they keep up with Hunters? Do wear your Jouls boots as well, and wich wellies for wich occasion?

        • Lorna

          November 28, 2013 / 12:55 pm

You can tuck your jeans into socks too! I do that all the time, but sometimes I find the elastic band more comfortable because having my jeans pushed into my socks causes some lumps and can be a bit irritating, but both do work! It depends how wide the jeans are around the calf!

I do have Joules, I have 2 pairs of Hunter, one short in Dark Ruby Gloss, one tall pair in the Navy Gloss which you see here, then my Joules are black gloss with pink ribbons. I love them all really, the Joules pair are beautiful because of the ribbon, but they are heavier than my Hunters and are a bit more clumpy, I don’t find them as sleep or as classic, but the ribbon is beautiful. Overall though, for versatility, I prefer Hunter ๐Ÿ™‚

If you order your Hunters, do you think you could do it by clicking the links I put to go to their website? Or click this link? If you do it through my blog and order them, it shows to Hunter that they got a sale through my site and I get a credit ๐Ÿ™‚ That would be amazing if you could since you said my blog helped you so much!! http://www.hunter-boot.com/

            November 28, 2013 / 5:05 pm

Sorry, I had to do some business ;-). Interesting, so you tuck all kind of jeans into socks or fix them with an elastic band, also skinny ones? I have to try this out if I get my boots! Do you do this also in normal leather boots?

Well, I see, you have a great selection of wellies! So you wear them all regularly (in England you have maybe more occasisions due to rainy weather an wellies are more common, aren’t they?) Here in Switzerland (the reason for my poor english…), the weather would also often justify waearing wellies, but the trend ist still just starting and groving. Wellies are more often seen in the streets then they were some years ago. Maybe the problem is, that the periods of heavy rain only lasts for one day. So until you are assured to put on wellies the next day (after coming home tonight with wet feet and soaked shoes), the heavy rain is already over :-). But Wellies are getting more and more fashionable here too, due to the fact, that Hunter Boots got better known and are available in some shops. Before the hunter boots got more common, wellies were only known als footwear for farmers and children, never seen on the streets and had the reputation of very unconfortable footwear wich causes sweaty feet… So you always have to explain the difference of a real welly like Hunter and the cheap pvc-boots wich people know beause they had to wear them als childrens. They usually don’t understand at first, why these boots are costly (they don’t know the difference between a handmade rubber boot and an cheap pvc boot) and that wellies can be so comfortable and not the embodiment of hurting an stinking feet ๐Ÿ˜‰ and why it’s worth it to spend that much money on them. I only tried them on sometimes in shops – I hope that this comfortable feeling still remains if you wear them while walking for hours (as it’s often written and said).

If I’m going to order mine (if I have then chosen my colour ;-), I will order them over the internet, and I’ll try to order them over the link on your site as you suggestet. I have to clarify, if they deliver to switzerland, which is often a problem due to the customs outside the EU. But in any case, I will let them know that you are a fantastic ambassador for Hunter Boots!

I’ll have a regular look at your blog – and hope to see more great outfits with wellies (and some wider/looser fitting jeans :-).

            Greetings
            Christina

Hi ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s ok! Everyone is busy! I don’t tuck my skinny jeans into my socks because they are skinny enough to stay in place, so that’s fine, it’s just the baggier ones that I do that for, so they stay. I do this with leather boots too, if I need to! It’s a very common thing to do! Wellies are very popular here because of the rain, you are right! They are very fashionable. They used to be for farmers and children as well, but people wear them as fashion boots now too! They are comfortable, but make sure you wear socks with them! I have made the mistake of wearing them without socks and after a couple of hours I got a blister on my heel, so definitely wear socks!! ๐Ÿ™‚
