I read this post on IFB (one of my favourite sites for blogging articles) about bloggers readers and if they actually care about Fashion Week. As a blog reader myself (of numerous blogs) I can say that I tend to zone out when some of my favourite style bloggers just post Fashion Week stuff.
Usually the readers go to these fashion bloggers to see what they are up to in their personal life, what they have bought and more importantly, their outfits of the day, so going there expecting to see these types of posts and ending up seeing runway shots is disheartening, so I usually don’t leave comments or skip past it. I find that if readers (like myself) want to see runway shots from Fashion Week, we will head to sites like Vogue who have the clear shots and inside scoop on everything in one place. This is just my opinion though, but it got me to thinking (which is the point of this post) do you actually like Fashion Week?
I used to write about Fashion Week on my blog, some seasons ago, but it took up so much of my time and it wasn’t something I really enjoyed doing. Going through the shows and saving/uploading/inserting the images was just really boring and so time consuming for me, but I thought that it was the right thing to do because I work in the fashion industry and Fashion Week is the most talked about thing at this time of year, but it never garnered much interest from you guys and I felt like all that hard work was for nothing.
Compared to my regular posts of new items and outfits, I found the Fashion Week posts to be the ones with the least engagement. So, last season I only made one post of my favourite looks from the runway, which made it more personal to me and more exciting to do and I found that it got more interest from all of you, but this time around, I’ve decided not to post anything on Fashion Week at all. Like I mentioned above, I feel like people will go to other sites to see what’s happening during the shows and the new looks so I don’t need to clutter my blog with it.
The main issue for me though is I have started to find Fashion Week insanely boring. It’s always the same thing over and over again, hectic hectic and more hectic followed by stress, delays and the same old shows. I admit that I do look forward to seeing brands shows like Marc by Marc Jacobs, Mulberry and more recently Burberry due to their amazing fits in clothes on the models and exciting shows with performances and art etc, but I will only watch them when I have time to see what’s what. I wasn’t impressed with Mulberry at all this time around, everything was just awful, which is a shame as it’s a brand I love. I only liked a few Marc by Marc Jacobs pieces, but I did really like the Burberry show. In general though my interest (or lack there of) in Fashion Week has been whittling away slowly. It’s literally everywhere now and I get so bored of it. Do you feel the same way or is it just me?
I used to like Fashion Week due to its exclusivity and the fact that it was hard to gain access to it, but the fact now it’s everywhere, it makes people zone out. It’s almost like a song you love, that you keep hearing on the radio constantly and you end up not wanting to listen to it anymore. It’s overdone. The pictures of the models on the runway just don’t even excite me anymore at all, I do like seeing the videos more than photos, due to the fact you can actually watch the show, but it’s still dull to me now. I am very excited for the Bristol Fashion Week show I go to twice a year though as it’s for bloggers and it’s a show hosted by Andrew Barton and Mark Hayes, with dancing and more! So what’s your opinion? Do you like Fashion Week or do you go with the flow and like it because you think you should? Like I used to?
Your black dress is awesome! so cute and gergeous! I love it and I’m waiting for new post!

You are right dear but I have to say as a blogger that joins fashion shows it’s extremely exciting sharing what you saw in the frontrow with your readers! It’s not about sharing good pics but just sharing a feeling 🙂 kiss!

That’s good to know you agree!
This is such a thoughtful post…I don’t know, I try to personalise posts about Fashion Week by only showing the looks from the runway that I really liked and that I would actually wear in real life. Other than that, I keep coverage to the minimum…I guess as my blog evolves I might eventually stop doing Fashion Week posts, because as you said, readers are definitely more interested in personal outfit posts than runway shows, because its more relatable!

Oh I’m glad you feel the same Lydia!
I love a strong opinion like yours that might contradict others (or dares to say what others think). To answer your question: I like fashionweeks (LFW the most for the originality) but agree that some aspects of the ‘circus’ are repetative, eg the people like AnnaDR, Mila S, the models off-duty, TommyTon etc parading around and doing their showpony-stuff. What I see on them is too OTT in real life (not to mention their skinny frames that can drape everything around) and I dilute trends in order that I won’t look like a “lost schoolboy in shorts”-look that might look wickedly good on Elin N. but not on me.
As for the outfitposts, keep them varied and show the real-life-adaptations of fashionweeks, but consider the less-lucky girls that do not have techie boyfriends who are willing to photograph them, or have the time for it.
ps: Mulberry was really bad! I love SS13 bags but what happened? Did they design in some dungeon of darkness, or what? I loved Topshop Unique, making my budget somewhat affordable for AW13

Thanks for your thoughts on it mileW! Yeah Mulberry was really bad this time around, I thought it was just terrible. Topshop was good though, I did really like what Jourdan Dunn wore!
I didn’t mean for that to come across as insulting people who don’t have boyfriends to take their photos, I meant when I go to a personal style bloggers blog to see their outfits that they usually post, I end up seeing runway shots instead, that’s what I meant. I know that not everyone has someone to take their photos, so I would never be rude about that.
Hey… thank you for your pretty comment!

Hi Barbora! Not sure if this was meant for someone else? I’m Lorna, I don’t know anyone by Jodie 🙂
To be honest, I’ve never been to a real fashion show and would kill to actually be at any fashion week. That’s where I’m hoping my blog will take me. But I can definitely see your point. When I want to see whats happening in fashion I don’t go look to bloggers, I check it out in vogue or some other high end magasine. I prefer it if you keep your blog personal. ^_^
Check mine out and we can follow eachother 🙂

Oh I would love to go too, it would be pretty cool to actually go to one, but I quite like how Chiara from The Blonde Salad shares hers, she mixes the photos with her outfits! 🙂
I like more to see the streetstyle hots than the runways themselves.
I think fashion nowadays i gravitating on how people wear it rateher than how we are suppose to wear it.

I can partially agree with you. It depends on the purpose of your blogging. I adore fashion weeks because the imagination of designers fascinates me every season. I post my review of those runway shows that caught my eye and those which according to my opinion deserve to be mentioned. Moreover, I`m interested in fashion journalism.
There are so many young people who wants to share their personal style, but basically it`s not something new. I mean look at the very first fashion bloggers, they were at the very start of creation of the whole fashion blog concept. They were original, they were the first to discover the new area in fashion industry. Now it`s something ordinary, you know. There is must be something unusual about your own blog if you want people follow you. And anyway any Fashion Week has a great impact on every fashion blogger because it`s where the trends born.

Oh you didn’t offend me, don’t worry!
I love that you touched this subject!! I agree so much, when I open a blog that only talks about the fashion week, I immediately zone out…I personally check fashion blogs like yours to see the persons style…to get inspiration and yes, I also enjoy reading personal stuff (not too personal though haha)!
