Reflecting And Improving

I don’t really celebrate the new year much, as I guess I’m not really a very traditional type of person, I live by each day rather than separating it into months and years. But, as I don’t smoke, drink, want to lose weight or anything like that, I never usually make new years resolutions. So, I thought I would take this opportunity to take some time out and reflect on the small things that make me happy and make sure I include more of them in my life.

I think it’s really important to fill your life with happy surroundings, people you love and make sure you enjoy every moment of it. I have more than my fair share of ailments in life, but I choose not to speak about them and only focus on the good things in life instead. It’s incredibly easy to get caught up in the hurry of life, but I always try to stop and think that there is always someone better off than you, and definitely worse off than you, so finding the best within your own life is what’s important and keeps you going. So the things I want to do more of are as follows:

Spend more time outside in nature when the Spring/Summer comes around.

This includes the above image and the one just below. When I see these two photos, I always smile as it reminds me of how beautiful things are when you take a step back to appreciate them. It’s important to relax and wind down and I do that best when it’s warm outside and I can be surrounded by quiet, in the middle of fields and trees. It’s absolutely beautiful.

Cuddling up to movies with my boyfriend.

Since my boyfriend and I have a long distance relationship, we don’t get to spend a huge amount of time together, so watching movies isn’t always high up on our list of things to do. But I want to change that because I think some romantic ones (likes the 4 pictured below which are my absolute favourites) can really bring you closer together. Plus, who doesn’t love that little shoulder area on a guy which is designed perfectly to fit your head?

spend more time just holding my boyfriends hand and appreciating it.

This is something I love doing. I absolutely love hands and I’m lucky enough that my boyfriend has beautiful hands, so I really need to spend more time just holding his. I do when we go out together, but not as often as I should. I think these kinds of little moments are important.

Taking more quiet time to relax my brain and listen to music and read books.

This one is one for myself which I really need to start doing much more. I spend too much time on my computer stressing over things like work and everything else, so I feel like I need to always take breaks out and enjoy music. I love listening to acoustic singers like Ed Sheeran, but at the same time I love dance music a lot. As for reading, I used to read constantly! I love getting lost and transported into another world, so I really need to read more books.

Snuggling up and playing with my kitties.

I do this a lot anyway, as I absolutely adore them! But I added it in because it’s something I love and something that always puts a smile upon my face. The love you receive from them is just unconditional and they are like my children. I’m the same with any animal though, I have more love for them than I do people, which I know most would find strange, but to me it’s just normal.

Focus more on improving my blog.

Mainly this should be ‘learn to stop stressing over my blog more and just enjoy it’, but I don’t think I would ever be able to not care so much about it. Blogging is my passion and my blog is a huge part of me as a person, so I am always wanting to improve it as much as possible. Whether it’s tweaking things in the layout, doing things behind the scenes or working on collaborations with brands. It’s grown so much over the past 2.5 years and I now have it self hosted and accept adverts and sponsors, as well as other things. So I am excited to keep on improving it, little by little.

Being happy with the things I have and not constantly needing new things.

This one is tough, because as a fashion bloggers nature, it’s always instinct to want the latest trends and items, however I think I need to step back and carry on doing what I have been doing for the past few months. Really take a long hard thought over making a purchase decision and take into account if I will actually wear the item, will it be worth the money etc. This is something I have been doing for a while and it’s working well. I used to just spend all my money on loads of clothes I didn’t necessarily want or need and it wouldn’t work out well, as I would have no money. So I am much more behaved now with shopping, and plan to keep it that way! I’m sure some of you can definitely relate to that! Sales are definitely my friend now!

And the last one is to try and improve on baking.

I’m not really ashamed to admit that I am a terrible cook. I’m ok at seasoning and flavouring foods as I have a very strong sense of taste and smell, but when it comes to actually cooking, I’m useless. One thing I do love though is baking. Cooking things like cakes and cookies is really fun and is something I aim to get much better at. A few times in the past I have ended up with volcano cakes due to explosions, bland things due to missing ingredients and just general piles of mess, but the three images below are of successful ones, ha ha! Probably down to the fact they are one of the easiest!

This post really made me think about the small things in life…like being with your boyfriend and holding his hand…I didn’t know you have a long distance relationship! Does he live far from you? My Mr now works so much I can only see him once a week and feel like I’m in a long distance relationship as well haha

I think taking time to ourselves is important…and not stressing about the blog, definitely!! =D It’s great as it is sweetie, I love it!

    Have a great weekend!

Ha ha, actually it was down to denim! We met online, on the forum of DenimBlog. So we have known each other for about 7 years I think! So it works out that we both love denim as much as we do! Crazy right? =)

It is true, and you phrased it so beautifully: we sometimes need to stop rushing and enjoy the little moments of life which are often those that make us the happiest ๐Ÿ™‚ I also had phrased some resolutions on my blog, about the smaller things in life. If you’re curious, always welcome to stop by ๐Ÿ™‚
