Do You Actually Like Fashion Week?

lorna burford fashion week Do You Actually Like Fashion Week?

I read this post on IFB (one of my favourite sites for blogging articles) about bloggers readers and if they actually care about Fashion Week. As a blog reader myself (of numerous blogs) I can say that I tend to zone out when some of my favourite style bloggers just post Fashion Week stuff.

Usually the readers go to these bloggers to see what they are up to in their personal life, what they have bought and more importantly, their outfits of the day, so going there expecting to see these types of posts and ending up seeing runway shots is disheartening, so I usually don’t leave comments or skip past it. I find that if readers (like myself) want to see runway shots from Fashion Week, we will head to sites like Vogue who have the clear shots and inside scoop on everything in one place. This is just my opinion though, but it got me to thinking (which is the point of this post) do you actually like Fashion Week?

I used to write about Fashion Week on my blog, some seasons ago, but it took up so much of my time and it wasn’t something I really enjoyed doing. Going through the shows and saving/uploading/inserting the images was just really boring and so time consuming for me, but I thought that it was the right thing to do because I work in the fashion industry and Fashion Week is the most talked about thing at this time of year, but it never garnered much interest from you guys and I felt like all that hard work was for nothing.

Compared to my regular posts of new items and outfits, I found the Fashion Week posts to be the ones with the least engagement. So, last season I only made one post of my favourite looks from the runway, which made it more personal to me and more exciting to do and I found that it got more interest from all of you, but this time around, I’ve decided not to post anything on Fashion Week at all. Like I mentioned above, I feel like people will go to other sites to see what’s happening during the shows and the new looks so I don’t need to clutter my blog with it.

The main issue for me though is I have started to find Fashion Week insanely boring. It’s always the same thing over and over again, hectic hectic and more hectic followed by stress, delays and the same old shows. I admit that I do look forward to seeing brands shows like Marc by Marc Jacobs, Mulberry and more recently Burberry due to their amazing fits in clothes on the models and exciting shows with performances and art etc, but I will only watch them when I have time to see what’s what. I wasn’t impressed with Mulberry at all this time around, everything was just awful, which is a shame as it’s a brand I love. I only liked a few Marc by Marc Jacobs pieces, but I did really like the Burberry show. In general though my interest (or lack there of) in Fashion Week has been whittling away slowly. It’s literally everywhere now and I get so bored of it. Do you feel the same way or is it just me?

I used to like Fashion Week due to its exclusivity and the fact that it was hard to gain access to it, but the fact now it’s everywhere, it makes people zone out. It’s almost like a song you love, that you keep hearing on the radio constantly and you end up not wanting to listen to it anymore. It’s overdone. The pictures of the models on the runway just don’t even excite me anymore at all, I do like seeing the videos more than photos, due to the fact you can actually watch the show, but it’s still dull to me now. I am very excited for the Bristol Fashion Week show I go to twice a year though as it’s for bloggers and it’s a show hosted by Andrew Barton and Mark Hayes, with dancing and more! So what’s your opinion? Do you like Fashion Week or do you go with the flow and like it because you think you should? Like I used to?

Fashion Week Spring 2013 – Mulberry, Burberry & Marc by Marc Jacobs

I didn’t see much point in posting loads of different fashion week posts, purely because every other blogger is covering it and we all go to the brands websites or magazines to see the shows images. What I wanted to do was just pile my favourite looks together from my favourite shows that have walked so far. This includes Mulberry, Marc by Marc Jacobs and suprisingly Burberry. I have never really been a fan of Burberry, purely because living here in England it has a bit of a stigma to it, but the Spring/Summer 2013 show was my favourite fashion week show that I have ever seen! It was incredible!

I can’t say that I have been a fan of many of the other shows as a whole. There have been a couple of looks I liked here and there, but in terms of a full collection, these three are my favourites. You may think I am a bit biased since Marc Jacobs and Mulberry are two of my most adored brands, but there is a reason for that – I literally love most of the things they design, so it makes sense. I didn’t really like much from the actual Marc Jacobs line though, just his Marc by Marc Jacobs collection. So, if you click this post you can see my favourite looks from the three shows and my thoughts on them!

Betsey Johnson Spring/Summer 2012

Here is the second show that I completely fell in love with during the shows! It’s the Betsey Johnson Spring/Summer 2012 collection which she showed at New York Fashion Week last week.

I have always had a soft spot for Betsey Johnson because of how girly, feminine and fun her designs are! I love the bright colours she uses, the floral prints and how much her dresses resemble a princess. I think it’s nice to be reminded of childhood memories and imaginations with her collections. I don’t own anything from Betsey Johnson except for a pair of sunglasses as it’s really hard to get the brand over here but it doesn’t stop me wanting her clothes! I fell in love with the pink and purple puffball dress last year and liked it even more when Katie Perry wore it to the People’s Choice Awards! What do you think of these designs?

Mulberry Spring/Summer 2012

Last year during Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Week I covered a lot of shows but it really took up so much of my time and I don’t have that much time for this year. What I decided to do was only cover a few shows, the brands I love a lot and the clothes that I think are gorgeous.

Here are my favourite looks from the Mulberry Spring/Summer 2012 catwalk show that walked at London Fashion Week a couple of days ago. I’m in love with the bright yellows they used and I think the dress below reminds me so much of those refreshers sweets, don’t you think? I also love the floaty dresses and the jackets. This is definitely a collection where I liked almost all of the pieces! The one thing I love about Mulberry is how much they love animals and often use doggies in their shows and this year they had animal balloons! What do you think of the looks?
