Interviewing Lindsey McKeon on Life and Health

Interview-Lindsey-McKeon

An enlightening interview with Lindsey McKeon on life, living and health

I’m doing something completely different for today’s post and that’s an exclusive interview with the amazing Lindsey McKeon. Lindsey is a huge inspiration to me as she’s such a grounded, strong minded woman who has managed to really enjoy life and understand it from such a clear point of view. For those of you not familiar with her, Lindsey is an actress from New Jersey, whom you might know from Saved By The Bell if you used to watch it, or numerous other titles.

I was very much inspired when I came across her blog post and set of videos with Chris Evans. This series was titled ‘getting inside Chris Evans’ head‘ and he answered her questions on enlightenment, thoughts and more, so I definitely recommend that you check that out as that’s helped me a huge amount on my life journey too and my goals to happiness and understanding. I’ve taken the book recommendations and I’ve been reading Lindsey’s own personal blog frequently as she always inspires me with her writing and passion for life. I found out not that long ago that she has also been to my home town of Bath and loved it here, so that’s a bonus!

I got the chance to ask Lindsey some really important questions to me, about managing health and illness while making sure you stay on the right track mentally. How important the nutrients you give to your body are. How she deals with being an empath and being surrounded by other peoples emotions and energy. What her general life journey has been like and more. I’m really happy and so thankful that she took the time to do this interview with me and chat to me, it shows how down to earth she is. You can keep up to date with Lindsey on her Twitter, but I definitely recommend that you check out her blog! But, carry on scrolling down to read our interview.

Lorna – If you could give a few pieces of advice to those who find it hard coping with anxiety and stress right now, what would they be?

Lindsey – Give yourself some slack and don’t beat yourself up. Find quiet time for yourself where you can breathe through the overwhelm and find a hobby, something that you will really enjoy that can take your mind off of the problem.

Lorna – How have you managed to create such a calm lifestyle for yourself?

Lindsey – I’m not sure that it’s exactly calm… The world will always be filled with a bit of chaos but for me the point is to remain grounded and do my best to not get caught up, and I do that by taking little bits of time for myself each day. Whether it’s five minutes in nature listening to the wind and trees and not touching my phone, meditating, taking a dance class, it’s very important for me to take myself out of the rhetoric during the day and reminding myself what I’m truly connected to.

Lorna – Has this had an impact on those around you too?

Lindsey – Yes, I believe so. I think that when one person makes a commitment to better themselves, everyone around them feels the effect of that in some way. Often times it can be an inspiration for others seeing you grow, and then they decide to help themselves in some new way. Paying it forward.

Lorna – How has your life been as a journey to finding inner strength, calm and happiness? Has it been easy or has it always been this way?

Lindsey – It has been a life long process. I went through many trials and tribulations when I was younger. I always felt a little bit different and like I didn’t quite fit in, or was interested in what a lot of other people were interested in, so there was a lot of time spent trying to fit that mold and then there was a lot of time rebelling. Which all brought me to doing some deep soul searching. Searching for who I truly was and cared to be in each moment of my life, and now I’m here- in my 30’s- and it’s much much easier to take a stand for what is meaningful to me.

Lorna – Being an empath, how do you manage to distance your own thoughts and feelings from those around you? How do you manage to realize the differences and not take on others emotions?

Lindsey – At first when I started to manage this I had to physically distance myself or limit my time in front of certain people, now I can stand strong in my own space without giving away too much of my own life force energy. Some people are very depleting and draining, they don’t realize it but if you’re an empath and you keep giving, they will just keep taking. So it’s up to us to set boundaries and know what our own limitations are.

It’s gotten to a point now that if I’m very clear and aware I can feel the energy shift when someone comes into my personal space, within a few feet of me. And when it does I am aware that it’s not mine and decide if it feels safe or suffocating, anxiety ridden or anger filled. I can literally move myself and step farther away from the person, or make a conscious choice to keep my energy field in, close to myself, and know that I am safe and protected. It takes practice and conscious awareness but in my opinion it’s a strong place to work towards attaining because then you can go anywhere, be in any situation, and be completely centered and grounded.

Lorna – Do you feel that being an empath is an amazing gift or a hindrance?

Lindsey – Every blessing is as well a curse… For the most part I now see it as an incredible gift. It’s actually surprising to me when someone is not aware of others in this way, and cannot easily put themselves in another persons shoes but that is a gift of the empath, understanding.

Lorna – Having M.E myself, I know first hand how hard it can be to stay focused and happy in life when a physical ailment is bringing you down. What are your thoughts on peoples outlook on life when they are sick? Do you notice a difference? (I personally feel like my outlook has changed dramatically as when you are not physically able to use your body normally, you have to use your brain power twice as much and you see things differently)

Lindsey – I definitely notice a difference. Sickness can either ruin you or force you very quickly to see the blessings and beauty in life. It reminds us daily how fragile life actually is and in that way I believe it is a tremendous gift. When people are otherwise healthy it is much easier to get stuck in the rat race and not appreciate the little things. Sickness makes us hyper aware of them. Also it forces us to look deeply at our own choices in life, the habits we’ve created, the foods we eat, things we do to extremes, patterns of behavior, etc. and clean up our own acts.

Lorna – What different coping mechanisms or advice would you give to them?

Lindsey – “Keep calm and carry on.” Humans are resilient creatures, we can adapt to almost any circumstance and eventually make peace with it. Learn about your disease and sickness, the good and the bad, the spiritual reasons and the real world reasons that this lack of ease has manifested. Research and ask questions and find what feels true and works best for you, it won’t always be the same as everyone else. Do some investigating into your own self, ask what is truly important and meaningful to you, what person do you ultimately want to be? And then spend every day in the practice of that. And remember to find joy…

Lorna – Health is extremely important to me, how much of an impact do you think eating the right foods and nutrition has on our lives? Are there any specific foods you swear by? To me, I feel like it’s a major part. Without the right fuel we can’t function.

Lindsey – I believe it has a huge impact. So do our thoughts and negative feelings towards others and ourselves. I believe those are two of the most impact-full things we have on this earth that we have control over.

I would eat organic, pesticide and toxin free food as much as you can. Reduce sugar intake. Eat everything as natural and from the earth as you can. I’ve also weeded out the majority of wheat and gluten products as it inflames the body, inflammation is the bodies immune response to an irritant or pathogen. Our bodies try to heal it but if we continue to place that irritant in our system our body will always be on high alert and the inflammation will become acute or chronic, allowing diseases to grow. It is this chaffing day after day, year after year, that I believe causes a lot of diseases. The more we are unaware or ignorant of what is occurring inside of ourselves, the louder our body gets to show us what is out of order, or out of balance. The more we become aware, the more the body can relax and restore itself.

Lorna – Lastly, do you have any quotes that you live by or love that would be inspirational to us? Ones that would help us keep on track, inspire us to find happiness and inner peace? What quotes helped you?

Lindsey – Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. – Rumi

Grief can be the garden of compassion. If you keep your heart open through everything, your pain can become your greatest ally in your life’s search for love and wisdom. – Rumi

Lorna – Thank you so much, Lindsey, this has been wonderful!

Lindsey – Thank you Lorna 🙂 Keep up the important work! I wish you the very best on your journey.

Both of you have amazing hearts and brains! I loved her interview and I liked when you say that you had to use your brain kind if twice as much, and see things in a different way… or also, the quote she mentioned, that really was important to me “Grief can be the garden of compassion. If you keep your heart open through everything, your pain can become your greatest ally in your life’s search for love and wisdom. – Rumi”. The whole interview was amazing, about empathy, keeping calm, so on… but this quote speaks a lot to me, so I have to print it! Thank you for that!

I’ve just read this entry this morning. Although I’d not heard of Lindsey before (which is why I’d not read this immediately on publication) I found it a worthwhile read. Her answers were interesting and, of course, good answers come from good questioning so well done on your question choices. ?

I’d certainly be interested in ready any future interviews that you conduct with anyone. ?
