I never used to be a fan of high waisted denim shorts about two years ago, in fact I wasn’t ever a fan of high waisted anything due to my short legs, however when I bought my first pair of vintage Levi’s cut offs, I was sort of addicted to the high waist look. I found that unlike high waisted jeans, high waisted shorts actually make your legs look longer. They create that illusion that your legs don’t stop at your hips, they carry on up higher. I got given these gorgeous denim shorts from Ruby Starling, a new brand in Los Angeles, and I really like the wash and distressing on the front. These shorts are a little too short for my taste at the back, but the fraying on the hems actually covers up any butt cheek, so even though they feel short, they aren’t actually that short from behind to see. I definitely plan on wearing these more with longer cardigans, I think that would work perfectly!
I was wearing my Ruby Starling High Waisted Denim Shorts, my Zara Burgundy Top and Black Blazer, my Chloe Burgundy Boots, a Butler & Wilson Eye Ring and Star Bracelet and my Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac in Port. I thought pairing the denim shorts with a blazer and booties would be a nice contrast, something to smarten up the look a little bit and add some structure to it. I know high waisted denim shorts with frayed hems are often very casual, so I wanted to go the opposite route and dress them up. I think the crystal jewellery from one of my favourite brands, Butler & Wilson, really helps too! And then to tie in with the burgundy top and boots, I added my beloved Mini Mac in Burgundy! I have sort of been thinking I may have too much of an addiction to burgundy now, but I just can’t help it. Anytime I see something burgundy, I have to stare at it and want to own it. This has been going on now for over 3 years, ha ha. Just ask my boyfriend! It’s sort of unfortunate he doesn’t like the colour! Anyway, what do you think of the outfit? Comment and let me know as always! I appreciate it!
