Looks I Love From Merle O’Grady

Ever since seeing a few Merle O’Grady pieces at the Urban Outfitters Autumn/Winter 2011 press day last week, I have been obsessing over the jewellery! I wanted to share with you some of my favourite pieces from the coming collection and a bit about the brand and designer.

Merle O’Grady is an Irish jewellery designer who trained in Fashion Design at Limerick School of Art and Design before relocating to her current home of London in 2004. There she specialised in Accessory Design at the world-renowned Cordwainers College at London College of Fashion and created her jewellery label in 2008.

Influenced by symmetric and geometric pattern, Merle creates luxury fashion jewellery using her signature spiked semi-precious stones, industrial tubing, chunky men’s chains and oversized Swarovski crystals to create an edgy yet feminine and luxurious aesthetic. All of her pieces are hand made in London as well which I love.

Merle has also had her work featured in many publications including British and Italian Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Instyle and Grazia and she counts Beyonce, Cheryl Cole, Rihanna, Kimberley Walsh, Tess Daly and Ellie Goulding as fans of her designs. I’m honoured to be able to speak with her and know more about her jewellery.

Merle said her Autumn/Winter 2011 line is all about a medieval disco feel, as bizarre as that sounds! She was going for tribal elements mixed with a sleek architectural 70s industrial aesthetic but still with that luxurious futuristic feel she always tries to achieve. I think she got it spot on! If you click this post you can see 11 styles I selected and love!
